in reply to: Longbow string question? #168058
Received a new string, problem solved!
in reply to: Tuning a new batch #133598David, here’s a ace hex head 2oogr . Hit a solid and split the casing. Arrow no worse for wear ( lucky it didn’t crack the nock end) Shows how tough a carbon shaft with a brass insert is ….when footed!!!
in reply to: Been lurking, but first post #133580My son once ask me “Dad how come you don’t hunt with a compound “ My reply to this , “A longbow or recurve is a simple, light, graceful and elegant weapon, that takes dedication and constant practice to shoot well . At the close ranges we are highly adaptable to the shot in a smooth fluid motion.Besides, anybody’s grandma can shoot a compound and they’re Fugly!!
in reply to: Old photos #133494Hey Ralph ! All my dogs are females … just for that very reason!! Haha!
in reply to: Tuning a new batch #133490Here’s the results of my endeavor. From 10 to 25 yards . Starting with a cold shot at 20.(target set at elk vitals height … )
in reply to: Old photos #133486Scout, I’ve done it! Drew on a bull at 15 yards and he didn’t bat a eye . Shields the draw and I’ve practiced with a fir bough attached and couldn’t tell a difference with it on or off . I keep a strip of Velcro on all my bow quivers just for that purpose. Put some boughs in the boonie hat as well and become one with the reprod!
in reply to: Tuning a new batch #133476in reply to: Tuning a new batch #133474Finally figured out how to post a video ! Thanks web mom! If you try this ,one cool thing is you can stop and use your finger to manipulate the frames of your image or blow it up . I can actually see the archers paradox and when I first watched it I thought I was plucking the string . Stopped the frame when the arrow was well past the riser and to my relief my string hand is firmly anchored to the corner of my mouth.
in reply to: Tuning a new batch #133469I totally agree! All those arrows in the pic ended up getting a 1/8” spanking on the cut saw for misbehaving!! Arrows are gt 340 XT traditional.
in reply to: Tuning a new batch #133458I did some fine fletched arrow tuning. I ended up lowering the brace height to 6 1/2″ (lowest recommended setting) and cutting off a 1/8 inch. The bow is centershot ,putting all the energy from the limbs to the arrow as opposed to building out the shelf plate. No feather noise whatsoever and perfect arrow flight. Total weight 692. FOC 26%
in reply to: Old photos #133418Not that old of a pic as well but Oregon’s own Larry Jones! Gotta dig that fir branch in the bow quiver!
in reply to: Gluing nocks #133121Steve, I’m a three under shooter and use two nocking points . It’s the bottom nock that is moving down on me. One thing for sure, I’m done with brass nock’s! Much cleaner release and quieter too!! I’ll try the thread trick, thank you!!! I think I’ll see if a constrictor knot will work for now , in case I want to adjust it .
in reply to: Books for Traditional Bowhunters #133113in reply to: Re-tuining #133093Kicked up the brace height a 1/8 inch. Made all the difference!!
in reply to: My tab is noisy? #133083On a side note, I own the Masters of the Barebow series. They are all phenomenal archers. Did you take a good look at their targets? They miss on occasion , just like us ! Haha!!
