Dave;
thanks for all that you have done. Hopefully one day we can meet in person and share few laughs from the forum over some beer.
in reply to: BirchBark Rover Quiver project! #20532Really like the workmanship. How are they for carrying?
in reply to: Concerns regarding speed and kinetic energy #20521If I remember right to get these number in a chrono most will try and use a mechanical release and shoot the arrow indoors for these results since sun and other environmental variables can affect the results of a chrono. if you are shooting only a 27″ draw you might be able to go to a shorter bow to get more pre-load in the limbs.
in reply to: Long draw –HELP #19722Correct me if I am wrong but beside height it also matters where he picks as an anchor point to measure his draw length i.e. if he picks his ear lobe then he will get a longer draw length than the corner of his mouth and maybe I was misreading his request but it sounded like he was drawing to different lengths to get these results. I do think wood is doable but will need to be prepared for the price.
in reply to: Long draw –HELP #18540From reading about the physics of it online you lose about 3lbs of force or 6% per pound of draw wight. here is a link to the calculations you might be interested in.

Where are you setting your anchor point matters to measuring draw length. The value of going to 33 is that you can go light but if this creates bad form for you and impacts your accuracy it can be a problem. I am no expert on FOC arrows hopefully can help answer that part. You might need to find another bowyer to work on your problem instead of the ones you called.
in reply to: Long draw –HELP #18336I don’t know how you measure draw length but I like to use the technique of putting my arms up at shoulder height flat against a wall and measure from fingertip to fingertip and divide by 2.5 this gives me a fairly accurate number for my draw length. If you naturally have a 33″ draw length then by all means find a bowyer who can make bow for your draw length. I know some guys who make their wood arrows from the dowels at hardware stores and those would be long enough for a 33″ draw. Alternatively you look online for info about making bamboo arrows for you can find bamboo that will work or even use carbon if neeeded.
in reply to: Tips for Scouting New Land #17228Be careful in your scouting in that if you find an area they use for sanctuary or bedding not to spend to much time in for they will move on since they feel less secure. Also look for travel corridors that they take for ambush spots.
in reply to: Where Would You Live? #15381Right where I live now in Colorado but if I had to move it would be either Oregon or back near family in New York/Vermont border area.
in reply to: Latest Arrow Creations #14189Enjoyed the pics of the equality work and look forward to many more.
in reply to: In need of assistance #14177When i lived in Virginia they also had a deer population reduction program you could get involved in. To do this you had to qualify by passing a written and shooting test. The shooting test was to shoot at 30yds at 3 9″ pie plates and had to hit all 3 in order to qualify. So they may already have some of the info in Virgina at the city or county level that you need. Note these were nothern DC metro areas.
in reply to: where are the heavier bows at??? #10547While others have pointed to possible reasons by the buyer I will swing the other way and say certain bowyers in developing there new bows have developed bows that are smoother to draw and more efficient at the lower wights. i.e. I own a Byron Ferguson made longbow that draws to 70lbs at my weight which I struggle with. However I recently tested from the bowyer hitman longbows one of his take downs which was 55 for me and it drew smoother and just by opinion sent the same arrow deeper into to the target consistently.
in reply to: Steppe Bows/History #9443A couple of others to think about was a Russian director did a movie about Genghis Khan and did it all in the native tongue but with english subtitles but I forget the name right now. I like reading but it is more historical fiction the novels by Conn Iggulden about Genghis and his ascension to top top of the mongols and the spreading of his influence.
in reply to: FMJ Fletching Jig? #9437I have used a Jo-jan fetching jig for both carbon and aluminum and had no problems with it.
in reply to: shooting hours per week #58344I grabbed a piece of bungee cord that is 1/4″ thick at the local military surplus and I use that as a practice draw and release tool. So I can get a little bit of practice each day on form and technique.
in reply to: FOC arrows of differnet tribes #57026I wonder what type of stone that is in the head that might give us a good start on what FOC might be especially if they are shooting out that far.
