The Kershaw Black Horse I found on a lake shore when the water was down. It was quite dirty and filled with grit, but cleaned up nice.
The other is a EKA folder from Sweden, a bit thinner in the handle than the Kershaw, but fits my hand better.
FYI, that Kershaw has a lifetime unconditional warranty on it!
The original owner won’t get to take advantage of that, but possibly I will.
Well you can’t beat it! I have a 1550 AO that is about 16 years old, torsion bar broke and lost a couple screws. Emailed Kershaw about it and they had parts mailed out the next day, no questions!

He builds some absolutely beautiful bows and short bows seem to be his specialty !!Reasonably priced too !!
Worth a look my friend !!
I checked out their website. He makes a 43″ recurve! Wow! Would love to try it. Says you should be able to have a 29.5″ draw and shoot it. Watch the last video on his site, very cool!

This guy has a one piece recurve 46″ long.

I had a brief, jealousy inspired desire for a Thunderchild, thanks to the jerks here who own them and post salacious photos of them in the field. But I’m so much more comfortable with recurves.
I really want something shorter than 52″, to fit a space I have in mind, so that rules out a Kodiak Mag. I saw a Mag 48 review by Jeff Kavanagh, he has a longer draw than me and had no complaints. That seems like a goer, but on 3rivers there are several reviews of broken 48’s seemingly stemming from poor workshop standards or manufacturing processes.
I just read a whole article about the 48 in the latest TBM and that has primed me even more for one, but I thought I’d seek some advice here. I can’t find anyone locally who owns any short recurves so I can’t even test fire anything before I buy.
Does anyone have experience, good or bad with the 48’s or any other alternatives that may be available? Second hand is not a great option as you can add 100-200 bucks shipping from the US.
Cheers fellas,
Jim
Bear Super Mag is 48″, Herters has a 46″, and I believe Little Suckling has a 44″. If you can find them! What is your draw length?

When I was researching I came across some folks that said beware of cheap online Gerbers, they’re made in China. So I ordered mine from a reputable stateside store and had it shipped. At the end of the day my proof is just a stamp on the blade, which could easily have been done by a chinese guy 😕
J.Wesbrock, I’m not entirely sure what counts as trad or non-trad either, but I didn’t think my rubber handled, electrically insulated field knife with MOLLE sheath and tacti-cool legstrap (not in the picture) was in much of a grey area 😉
Shane, good luck mate 🙂
Just for the record and I’m pretty sure no one here would try it, but don’t count on any knife to be electrically insulated. The dirt, grime and sweat on the grip can potentially conduct a current right up your paw. Sorry…I’m in the electric utility business. Cool knife though!
Tried it with a steak knife and cut a extension cord when it was a kid, and nah, it wasn’t insulated!

I’m sure you all know how painful it is to throw out an old pair of boots, but if they just plain don’t fit anymore, what are you going to do. A friend gave me this old Cattaraugus WWII era fighting knife that belonged to his dad. It needed a new sheath. I made one out of leather, but it ended up a tad too small. I found a small piece of walnut in the shop and sawed it in half, chiseled out the center to fit the knife and glued it back together. I cut up my old Redwings, used the back for the loop, which got epoxied to the wood, then sewed the tongues together to get a piece big enough to cover the rest. I contact cemented and sewed it on. It’s not a pretty sight, but I get to keep my old boots and carry a beauty of a knife to boot… It’s been nicknamed Frankenstein. Best, dwc
That’s awesome! Necessity is the mother of invention! Great looking knife, but I think it should be over on the “Trad Knife” thread!!;)

I like me glasses. I quit counting the number of times they have saved a poke in the peepers…
I reckon I’ll just keep dealing with it.
I read on an on-line sport glasses website where they moved the center of focus of their glasses off to the nose side for archers. I guess they must make a right and left hand version. I thought that was good. And the nose piece was removed and replaced by a single lens that goes across the entire face.
Have to agree on the poke in the eye part! I have adopted to bringing along a pair of clear safety glasses for that purpose, especially walking out/in in the dark! When they get scatched up, toss em, get another pair from work.
I may check those out further if I can find the website again.

Anybody find a good pair glasses that doesn’t affect their shooting?
Or alternatively, a good compensation strategy?
Laser eye surgery! Not cheap, but best money I’ve spent! 20/20 seven years later, no reading glasses yet!!

Tape up the blade unless you enjoy getting stitched up.;)
