I do appreciate everyone’s opinions and advice. Thank you.

I think mainly it boils down to sharing time with folks who have a like minded opinion of the hunting process and choosing to avoid making camp with others who have a differing opinion of hunting in mind. I have very dear friends that though I love them I would not hunt with them for the sake of our friendship.

Yeah I’m not a dirty joke and beer drinking kind of guy. But that’s how others enjoy their trips. These future trips are with people from my church and are family friendly. But I know a lot of guys who like to do ‘guy stuff’ in their camps and that’s fine. Just not my cup of tea. I’m there to enjoy the woods and hunt. So I’m typically hunting by myself but have of recent decided to try a couple deer camps out and see how that goes.

I do appreciate everyone’s input. I think once I get the might hunters together we can figure it all out then. Thanks again

congrats that’s awesome. I can’t wait to hunt some bunnies. I killed many with hawks and shotguns but I am looking forward to the hunt with my longbow. Thanks again for the cool pic.

I am blessed to live in Oregon where a guy can put boots to the ground and move out. Sitting in a tree or ground blind holds very little appeal to me. If you prefer to hunt that way then that’s awesome. Do what you like to do. We are all out there to enjoy the experience so hunt how you enjoy to hunt.

Last year I decided to only fly fish with dry flies even though it would mean a little less success. I still caught fish. Maybe not quite as many or maybe could have caught some big ones but I really like to watch that trout take that fly off the top. Even if it costs me.

Like my fly fishing rule of dry flies only I decided I wouldn’t hunt from a ground blind or tree stand. Even if it costs me. Simply because I enjoy walking and still hunting. I know guys who take huge blacktail deer out of a tree stand. I’m as giddy as a school girl with a forky I snuck up on. But how they and how I measure enjoyment and success is different than them and I won’t try to make them wear the same hat as me.

That said I had two turkey hens in front of me for an hour as I layed on the ground with just a branch for cover. As I layed there with a good tom off to my left that wasn’t quite coming in, my legs cramping, my arm tingling as it’s falling asleep, that itch you can’t scratch and you can’t move. I thought to myself, hey a blind would be awesome right about now…

But I’m ranting, sorry. I like to walk and stalk.

I just got my Havalon in the mail today. It’s ok looking. Pretty darn sharp. If I kill a bear this weekend I’ll let you know how it works.

$29 for 100 blades isn’t too bad. Considering some guys say to can take care of an elk in the field with one. I like knives. I have many. But I also like light weight and practical. So I don’t know. To each his own I guess. This year at least I’ll try that havalon and see how that goes.
