Please pray for us in the Illinois River valley. Our town (Beardstown) began voluntary evacuation today. We are staying put as long as possible, but they tell me I will be under 9 feet of water if the levy breaks. Most of my neighbors are gone but a couple of us are sticking it out to run off the bad guys. If the river doesn’t get us, I’ll be damned if the looters do.

I know this isn’t a bowhunting topic per se, but this is the heart of trophy whitetail country and I know that a few of you have hunted here.

The river is still rising but is expected to crest tomorrow. Its an inch shy of the record now. Good news is that everybody in the community came together to effectively raise the problem levee two feet. We should be ok. I’m going home to sleep in my own bed tonite. God is good.
