Gator, yep an Axis. The hunt was a gift from my fellow workers when I retired. The only guided hunt I’ve ever been on. I felt like a fish out of water being led around, guided :).
This outfitter had access to several small properties near Bourne, Tx., all free range. Small may be a bit bigger than small is in some places though. 😀
My most vivid memory of the hunt is of a herd of 8-10 axis running full speed and clearing a barbed wire fence in full stride. It was a beautiful picture that I was only able to capture in my mind but it’ll be there forever.
Axis are mighty fine table fare.
Sneaking on one animal tough enough, sneaking on a herd? Actually being lucky is sometimes a big part of a hunt. 😆
Being in the right place at the right time while holding Lady Luck’s hand sometimes ain’t a bad deal.
in reply to: Faith in humanity restored! #7878That’s a good deal. Hope your daughter enjoys her new bow.
I have recently passed on two little Northern Mist Longbows to a couple of youngn’s. One here in Texas, the other has made it to FL.
I love to see the face of a child when they get their gift and when that first arrow hits the mark:D:D:D
Hope the clouds in your life go away soon.
in reply to: cutting carbon #63798Have fun. Maybe some bow shooting be in order. Too bad about the whole trip but some better than none. 😀
in reply to: What ya got goin? #63796in reply to: cutting carbon #63308Jim, we thinkin alike. 😀 I know you’re not relating height to length.
Thinking on it, a 4′ arrow ought to have a lot of weight forward from the launch point.:D
When you goin kayaking around the world? Well, maybe not quite that far, but your trip?
in reply to: What ya got goin? #63293Nice!!!
I like cocobolo.
Sprinkled here but dumped buckets 50-100 mi. west.
I shot my 50# Yellow Jacket,Osage/glass, longbow very well, my 45# Samick Sage, not so well, and was playing with a Samick Red Stag, 40#, when the mosquitoes won the battle. What’s worse methinks is the biting flies. Those peckerwoods enjoy mosquito repellant as an hors d’oeurve before the bite!
Me and longbows just get along better than me and recurves. Not saying one better than the other, just saying I’m better with one than the other. Neva, neva open that debate:D.
Me and skeeters and flies don’t get along at all.
in reply to: cutting carbon #63281Perhaps a drone fixin’ to go down? :D:D
in reply to: Is your traditional bow "Cute"? #58947“Cute” Long-bows.”
I think me and my longbow make quite the pair! 😆
My bow is old too……
in reply to: Thumb rings? #58242Yeah, I knew one needed a “wrong handed” bow but I never had a clue as to how the thumb ring system worked. If I’m at a shoot somewhere where there might be some thumb rings to try on I might buy one and play.
I won’t order one cause my old hands are hard to fit with gloves and a thumb ring may be a problem. Think you’d not want it to slip off or cut the circulation off either. Someday perhaps.
I’m thinking after the initial shot it might not be so scary.
Actually looks fun.
in reply to: Thumb rings? #58046See if this works. If not go to You Tube and ask how to use thumb rings for archery.
Looks scary to me. 😀
Another. Foreign lingo but good view of use.
in reply to: Update on Larry Fischer vs The Bastard #57811Be blessed Larry and your family also. All of us are sending prayers for you and yours.
Sorry about your dog, know how you feel. I thought I was gonna lose my girl buddy of 12 years but we got her infection stopped. Not a challenge like yours but it still makes one’s heart bleed.
God Bless!!’
Ralph
in reply to: noisy recurve #57678Ahhh, the silence of the the thump of the stump not. With the silence of the bow and the lack of a thump can we hear a tree fall in the forest? 😀
in reply to: Watch covers #57217Bruce, nor do I. The beauty of retirement. Don’t know nor care what time usually, what day particularly. One gets hungry, one gets sleepy, one gets…………and grabs his bow and goes shooting.
That is good idea Jim.
Walk softly and carry a good stick :D. Kinda like what Teddy R said 😆 That’s the way I hunt………
in reply to: noisy recurve #56616Yup Steve and we don’t charge an analysis fee.:D
in reply to: Best and easiest sharpening technique Ive found #55045We always referred to them as “workin edges” and “shavin edges” in my working world.:D
