Hi Rich
My thoughts are with you and your family.
Mark.
in reply to: Hunting Binoculars #19187Thank’s for the comments and suggestions, I’m going to give the subject further thought.
in reply to: Hunting Binoculars #18517?ucznik, thank you for doing the leg work for me, looked at two:
1. Zeiss 10 x 25, possibly better performance but not sure the construction is tough enough for field use.
2. Leica 8 x 20, these I like the look of.I know these are a lot of money but I only want to buy once, which way would you jump?
I’m looking for low light capability, dawn and dusk, a reduction in bulk and reliability.
Look forward to your comments, Mark.
in reply to: Hunting Binoculars #17671If I may gentlemen, couple of years ago I nearly bought a Zeiss scope (could not bring myself to part with the cash), when comparing two there was a clear difference in image quality.
On reversing the scope and looking through the objective lens it was clear that one of the scopes barrels was not prepared or coated properly creating internal reflection.
Now I know very little about optics but if a top end manufacturer can miss this during final inspection it may help to explain some of the inconsistencies with other manufacturers.Any suggestions regarding a monocular?

I think manufacturers are allowed a 10percent margin on the odo.

Hi Daniel, great project, I have a question I have a couple of knives by different makers with blades made from spring steel (1095 I think) they have a convex grind and retain an excellent cutting edge that is easily maintained but the points on both curled when I used them.
I have reprofiled the points removing the minimum of material and making the angle greater giving more support and found that this cured the problem.
Finally my question, would you suggest that this is due to the design or heat treatment, this is to satisfy my curiosity I have no issues with the makers.Mark.
in reply to: Hunting Binoculars #10697I have an old pair of 8 x 50 tasco marine binoculars that are excellent but very heavy steel and rubber, generally stay in the truck, and 8 x 25 Docter Optics ‘asheltics’ not sure of the spelling as those are also in the truck and number one son has borrowed it. The Docter bins are good but as has been said previously they are limited in low light or even looking into cover in good light.
Does anyone make a good quality monocular this would allow 8 x 50 capability at half the price and weight any suggestions?

in reply to: adapter points #10673I fitted them to the last batch of wooden arrows I made, and the shafts broke quite regularly right where they enter the adapter, in their defence I never made the straightest wood arrows.
Certainly would not have enough confidence to use them for hunting.

Probably as well not to, don’t want to upset the Mods:wink:Mark.
in reply to: Tell Us About Your Username #27414That would have been a nice picture.
Used to parascend with friends off the back of a land rover, great fun but a few scary moments running out of room.
My youngest son went to NZ and leant to free fall over some fantastic country, in fact he blew a whole years money in two months diving, bungeeing (if that’s a word) parachuting.
He told his mother and I that he was having a gap year before going to university, never did get to uni, to tame for him.

That’s a heck of a way to check if your broad heads are sharp:shock:
I’m going to stick to shaving kitchen towel.
Glad to see your on the mend, Mark.
in reply to: Arrow Selection #27389For what it’s worth I got so frustrated I just pitched up at an archery shop had them check my draw length and suggest an arrow, cut it to length and fit a 125 gr. field point and went out the back to see how it flew. Ended up with them making me a second arrow about 1/2″ longer and all was well, much easier than trawling through charts.
Don’t suggest going on a Saturday morning though they got a bit impatient when the shop started to fill up.

in reply to: Anyone else hate gun season? #27378Hi Chris
I’ve been giving this some thought all week, don’t let others dictate how you should hunt, time spent with friends and family is precious, opportunities to spend time with your father hunting should be made the most off.
You could spot for your father or fish whilst he is hunting.
Just my take on the situation.
Everyone needs a motto perhaps yours should be ‘Illegitimi non carborundum’ 😆
