in reply to: The anatomy of a broadhead's edge #40909
Wow, I somehow missed this thread. Awesome stuff! I thought I’d bump it, especially since Daniel has been too busy lately, working TOO much to impart his wisdom. 🙁
in reply to: Special Hunting Permits #39796We have drawings here in Michigan for particular parts of the turkey season, elk, bear, and special hunts in the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge (with a chance for a BIG buck). I’ve applied on and off over the years for each of them but I’ve never been one of the chosen few.
in reply to: help choosing arrows and tuning #39066Greetings.
What Purehunter said. Get yourself some field tips, all the way to 300/315 grains. As purehunter suggested, I’d bet you’ll be using much heavier tips than you expected, and it’ll be to your advantage for many reasons.in reply to: Most Trouble Free Wood Shaft #38986BRUC wrote: Lots of little pluses with the hexshaft besides being built in Canada EH!!!

😆 What perfect timing! I just posted on the other thread how I just did a complete 180 and now believe bare shaft tuning is better. Than you throw this curve ball.
[Disclaimer to all: I don’t know squat compared to Fletcher]in reply to: Paper and Bare shaft tuning? Different results? #37804I hope you guys don’t mind me resurrecting old threads from the dead. Anyway…
Since writing my above post, I’ve done a complete 180. I no longer paper tune and only bare shaft tune. It seems you guys know what you’re talking about. 😉
PS: There was never any doubt. I knew I just wasn’t grasping the concept.
in reply to: Texas Hog hunt #37739I never considered hog hunting until hanging out on this forum. Now I really want to go!
in reply to: Teaching the Principals of FoC (to my son) #37350Tom-Wisconsin wrote: Are the arrows really stabilizing in flight?
Absolutely! In fact, try as I might, I couldn’t get the heavily FoC arrows to flip in-flight. It was pretty easy to do that with the low FoC arrows. Very drastic difference.
Tom-Wisconsin wrote: Did you chronograph them?
There’s no way I could be accurate enough to throw it through a chronograph.
Tom-Wisconsin wrote: Maybe we can do without the bow and just throw the arrows at the target.
See previous answer. Then again, I couldn’t do any worse than I have for the last to years. 😆
in reply to: New to archery #36638With all due respect, Ray, SteveMcD, George, Snuffy and Fletcher all, FREELY, took there time and gave very sound advise. I’m relatively new to traditional bowhunting myself, so I don’t have the experience necessary to give the advise you seek. Ray merely stated that he would recommend you not buy Chinese. He didn’t belittle anyone’s decision to do otherwise, and you hadn’t stated anything regarding an inability or unwillingness to pay more. People are people, and that goes for traditonal bowhunters as well. I will say this much: There is no other forum that even comes close when it comes to having civil, respectful, yet sometimes heated discussions. Hope you don’t let this mild debate turn you away, it’s a great bunch of people here!
in reply to: New to archery #36345And at 83.7 cents, what a bargain (Well said Snuffy)! 😉
in reply to: How do I make a heavy carbon arrow? #35865Howdy,
If you are not using full length shafts, you could possibly add weight by switching to a full length shaft. Both, the extra length, and the necessity of a heavier spined arrow (the Alaskan or Safari), could give you a substantial weight increase without alot of other messing around.in reply to: New to archery #35252George D. Exactly! Ray, don’t you realize that The Peoples’ Republic of China monitors this site very closely and your choice of words could very easily be the proverbial straw, that causes an international incident?! AND I’ve heard rumors that they HATE being called commies. Which is strange since they are commies.
