in reply to: Strange Things/Near Misses #15634
Wow! Those are stories I never would have anticipated…I don’t know how half of us “free range” kids survived knowing how we basically tried to wound each other constantly with bb’s and now arrows….I wonder if all the stupid violence we read too much of doesn’t have something to do with video games not having real bb’s hit you and making it real????
in reply to: What ya got goin? #15619Body-wise it looks like a year and a half old buck to me with great antler growth? He looks thin in the haunches to me to be an older buck… Enjoy all the prep, I think that’s where a lot of the fun is. My 2 cents though, don’t get hung up in a tree all the time, hunters throughout time moved and learned as they did. You can learn a lot in a tree but it can be boring as hell too:lol:
in reply to: The Oldest Bowhunter #13269Steve – I’m sorry to hear your news. Nothing brings clarity more than that. My best to you and your neighbor.
in reply to: The Oldest Bowhunter #12266Very good story to catch back up with things here. Hope all here are having a good summer.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #49707Every time I hear the great Stevie Ray Vaughan song “Texas Flood”, I hear it differently now knowing it really does flood in Texas:lol: Keep your powder dry and arrows straight!

Scott I’ve known times at Twenty Nine Palms, CA. in the middle of July, in the middle of the night, that I wished the Corp had issued me a couple more of those itchy wool blankets. 😀
It gets plenty cold here in the TX panhandle, not too far below zero too often but add our incessant fall and winter winds, wool can feel mighty good no matter what color.
Y’all:D, have different issues than we. Got trees??
Hard to hide behind what you ain’t got so looking as much like a lizard as you can helps.
Ralph – you are absolutely correct. I was thinking more of the earlier seasons, like early fall in Alabama or something…seems that’d be warm. But then, I read somewhere that the wool Civil War uniforms were oddly not as bad as you’d think in the heat. Could that be true?
I got the wrinkles part down pat.
I do good wearing brown and gray tones of plaid around here with a sagebrush colored camo vest and all is good.
Pulls the wool over their eyes sometimes. 🙄

Before long we will have sonnets, and love songs…
Am actually thinking of hunting early Nov. in W. Ma. with the stick and string. I can visit my parents (upper 70’s now) and hunt tons of land right out the door where I grew up. Good mix, and I’d have time to figure out what a sonnet is:D
in reply to: CAMO OR NOT who is the fool ? #44654Camo is fine, just not necessary. The old light or heavy weight wool (depending on the season) jackets and shirts do the work just as well. I like the Adirondack black and green style for late Oct/Nov. and just plain old green wool pants with cargo pockets. You can layer up as the weather gets colder. I do like the Woodland camo pattern, if you can find it. That’s what everyone wore back in the day, and damnit, that’s traditional to me:D Not sure though if wool would work for ya’ll down in the old Condferacy? Might be a bit warm.
in reply to: Killing the future of hunting. #30826Thanks Clay for bringing the piece to light. Much like taking a Space Walk, you have to “suit up” and really be conscious of how to protect yourself from the void of consumerism.
