Ok . Second dumb question . When tuning , do you reglue the points on each time after cutting the shafts ? These are arrows that already have the fletching on .

Well. If you run out of bears in Alberta you can always wander over to B.C . We always seem to have too many of those black critters .

Sounds like the best way to get consistency with wood is to buy spined shafts in larger quantities .then group them by spine, weight ,and grain , before actually building your arrows. Thanks for sharing your knowlege. I guess this is what Fred A. meant by avoiding easier ! Lol.:D

Lots of snow up here in the northern interior of B.C but really mild . snow one day then rain! lots of icy roads . freezing at night and thawing by mid afternoon . Still about two feet of the white stuff in the valley bottoms. Pretty heavy crust some days ,allows the wolves to run on top . Not so good for the deer. But some south facing slopes starting to bare off. Moos are looking good so far . we’ll see how many wind up with ticks later .

I also bought one of these this fall .I layer it over a woolshirt and then a “stanfield” wool longunderwear shirt under that. Spent lots of hours in snow and wind this fall waiting for that elusive moose to show up . Now they come into my backyard to feed along the creek !

This is such a fun thread . thought I might as well jump in ! I’ll be 55 in march . I shoot two “Hawk” bows by mike beckwith . one is 55# the other new one is 52# . What I like is they both shoot the same . So I can practice lots with the lighter one and tune up for hunting season with the heavier one . I’m on Ron’s list for a Shew and I’m prob. going with 52# .

Dave I assume you are using brass inserts in those 250 shafts. What weight did you go with ?

I’m going with my Mike beckwith “Hawk” bow 55# @ 28 ,Carbon Ex.250s,brass inserts and hopefully werewolf 200g.single bevels. Totaling around 625g.total arrow weight.Hope to get a chance on one of our elusive moose that hang around the place all winter only to become scarce from now till December!

Hey Sam . My wife just got into archery this year . She is about 5’4″ and 140 Lbs. She messes with(trains) other peoples horses for a living ,so shes pretty strong . But she has some shoulder problems . She shoots a 36# bow for 3-D stuff , and it seems to work well for her. I don’t know if that would be enough poundage for deer ,but would be a good weight to start with . I tried her on a 45# recurve but it was too heavy .Better to start light and work up to something heavier .
