in reply to: Newbie looking for first longbow #13923
I second Robin. You wont go wrong buying a second hand bow from RMSG . These guys are hunters and know their stuff . One of the best shooting bows I own I bought from them for $500.
in reply to: SBD bowstrings? #13914makes sense . Always faster to learn from others experience !
Thanks Dave. I was thinking getting a Classic hunter ,but after consulting with Greg ,decided to go with the SS . Yes I have been checking the brace height every time and did have a lot of stretch at first . The bow arrived only 3 days before a shoot and common sense would have dictated that I shoot my regular bow . But I was having too much fun with the shrew ! My scores were lower but I didn’t care . My normal shooting partner makes his own bows and somtimes shoots 3 different selfbows in one weekend . He doesn’t give a Rat about scores! So I guess it kind of rubbed off on me , Lol!Thanks for the advice .Mike
in reply to: wooden arrow lathe #13738A good friend of mine that makes his own bows and arrows ,uses this tooling and turns out high quality shafting fom local birch that he has cut and seasoned .
I’ll have to try and get some pics . Might need help from my tecno. savy son ! Lol. I was shooting two of mike beckwiths “Hawk” recurves . A 52# and a 55# . They shoot real sweet , but are a compleatly differnt feel from the light weight of the shrew . Was just looking at a couple of moebows videos . already picked out a few things (bow hand in particular)
in reply to: SBD bowstrings? #13695Whats wrong with the stock strings that come with the shrew bows ? They seem to be well made and fairly quiet . Or are the skinny strings just faster ?
in reply to: help gold tips #63685I use Fletchtight platunum , and wraps on all my carbons . Never had any come loose . When not using wraps I use a little steel wool or fine sandpaper and clean with alcohol first .
in reply to: Tuning wood shafts #32979More good advice ! Thanks Chad.
in reply to: Looking for a good broad head #32216Hey Dave what kind of wood(for shafts) are you planning to use in that setup .
in reply to: Looking for a good broad head #32210I like the tuffheads but for economy you might try the eclips single bevel . Ive had good luck using the steel adapters on glue on blades . I use JB weld epoxy on them . Haven’t had any trouble with alignment or anything coming loose etc. I wish I could say I was able to field test the TH on one of these rangy Moose but they eluded me all fall only to emerge in my backyard in MARCH ! 😆
in reply to: Tuning wood shafts #31785Regarding these pre-fletched shafts . I noticed that they are in fact somwhat random in thier nock placement as far as grain orintation. So I think next batch will be finished shafts only .
in reply to: Tuning wood shafts #31774Ok so the wood arrows arrived the other day (takes about 3 weeks to get up here) . Now I know what port orford cedar smells like ! that alone is addicting .:D
they are spined @ 70-75 . I’m shooting them out of a 55# recurve . My draw is around 29″ And the shafts are 33″ right now , with a 145gr. point. I’m going to try some heavier points , hoping I can shorten them up a bit (31″) without them being too stiff . So far they are grouping real nice froim 15 to 30 meters.
in reply to: Where Would You Live? #20980Folks here generally quit skiing from lack of interest rather than lack of snow ! But your right snow is better than mud . especially where thers lots of clay. Right now we have clear skies . So freezing at night and warmer during the day . But you can forget about trying to sneak up on anything ! Lol.
in reply to: Where Would You Live? #20883Yes B.C is beautiful But the winters are long .Second day of “spring” and still lots of snow ! On the good side the days are longer now . Still light at 8:00 .
