That’s some pretty contry #1 . I get to return to some of those SPECIAL places from time to time , where my DAD and I roamed the woods and streams for many years .

I surely would like to have one of those SHACKS . Just to sit and think ,,,,,,,sip some fresh coffee,,,,,,,or some WILD TURKEY 101 with a good friend .

1 SHOT , that’s a beautiful bow and quiver ya have there too.

I would like to encourage you and your friend to take a little time and read Dr. Ashby’s reports . It is an extreme eye opener . Well written and not the least boring ,,,in my opinion. It would be advantageous with any type arrow launcher to have an arrow set up with EFOC and a high quality single bevel broadhead .

I prefer those glorious days that start out in the 30’s and top out in the mid-forties . But , we can’t have all of them the way we want , can we ?

This week end will be my first time out this season , for deer that is . Warm or not I will be going . It’s going to be warm saturday,,,cooler on sunday . If I am furtunate to make a harvest I’ll simply have to hurry things along to get it quartered and in the fridge. Hunting less than 10 miles from the house is a convenience . Once the cooler air of fall settles in I’ll be on the public hunting area which is a mite farther from home .

I’m with Ben on this one . Just can’t reach the point of enjoyment .

Reminds me of my first TRAD buck. This old farmer never let anyone hunt ,,,PERIOD . Well, I’d been road scouting the local farms and had been seeing a lot of deer hanging near this ol’ boy’s woodlot . I went to him with the attitude that the worst he can do is run me off . After a thirty minute talk , and him asking a lot of questions and laying down a lot of rules as to where I should park and such he gave me permission . On my second hunt I arrowed a 2nd year buck . The farmer was shelling corn in the next field . He saw me go in and thirty minutes later go out . Another thirty minutes and I was back with a Coleman lantern and knife (I was in such a rush for remaining daylight I had forgtten my knife ). I stopped at his house to inorm the MRS. what I was up to and then went to find my deer . Couriosity got the ol’ boy and he stopped shelling corn and went to the house where his MRS. told him I had killed a deer . About the time I finished gutting the deer I could hear him walking through the fodder . He came striaght up to me with his eyes all peeled back in disbelief . It was the first deer ever taken on his farm . First thing he said was ”WHERE’S THE LIVER ?” I reached into the gut pile and pulled it out and cut it loose for him . Went for the jeep upon his insistence and he sat there in the jeep for a half mile drive through a corn field holding that bloody liver . He was so tickled to get that meat , I thought he was gonna eat it before we got to the house .

First to come to mind happened last fall . I was in a ladder stand . In comes a nice doe and her triplets . I had been standing long before they ever showed up and now simply tried to be still as they moved from cover out into the clearing . Everything was perfect . The yearlings were out in front and momma came out , quartering away , head down . I began to draw and make a slight twist with my body . At about half or two-thirds draw my left knee popped like a hickory stick . Well , you know the rest of the story. Rapidly departing venison and me cussin’ my old bones .

in reply to: Limb Twist #29984

I have noticed the same thing on my Super Kodiak . Never gave it any thought untill I read your post . Went straight to the garage and made an inspection and found both limb pads , which are some synthetic material , have been creeping also . My string is twisted quite a bit in a clockwise direction. The upper pad had moved toward the centerline of the limb from both sides , yet the right hand side was more pronounced . Same on the botom limb except more pronounced from the left side .

I give the bow the EYEBALL test at least once a week and to date have no discernable twist ,,,,,the bow being built in March of this year .

Things like this really get into my walnut sized brain and torment me . So , I removed the pads (I have a bag with several dozen spares ) and reduced the twist by 10 revolutions , which gave a brace of 8.125”. She shoots great and the arrows are still like darts .

I think you need someone to watch your limb tips as you draw the bow to check for twisting ,,,,AND I HOPE IT AIN’T ! With hunting season upon us you don’t need something like that to aggravate you .

Might add , after removing the pads and shooting a few arrows , I can’t HEAR any more noise than there was with the pads .

                        Best to ya

THAT’S IT!!! All I need to do is go out to the garage and lay my ring finger on the anvil and give it a good whack with a 32 oz. ball peen hammer . Thanks for the tip.

I actually have a callouse on my ring finger and I use a thick glove . I do have a glove with thin stalls that I can use with same results both on the finger and target .

Been working overtime trying to adhere to about everything Fred teaches in INSTINCTIVE II . Also read the recent article on the deep hook , but it doesn’t seem to work for me , but then too , I actually hold the string split finger yet only use the bottom two . Discovered this two years back in attempt to get the GOOD INLINE FORM from bowhand to string arm elbow . As I increase tension on the string the majority of the pressure is on my middle finger . By doing this I am able to keep the string arm elbow down and can easily FEEL the tension in my back .

Now don’t get me wrong , I think Fred is spot on with what he teaches . I just happen to be a little quirky in my own form and style .

I don’t mind the callouse ,,,,it’s the PLUCKING of the string on release than aggravates me . But , when I do things correct at release time ALL things are good .

I finally had to admit that alot of my missed shots were due to the pain and discomfort of all my aching bones ( from the waist up).

Last few days I only shoot 2-3 shots and then put it up for 30 minutes to an hour .During this time I sit and study for my evening classes , which puts me back into a stoved up condition .

My neighbors have 3 big walnut trees which drop their leaves into my yard . I generally pick out a leaf for my cold shots . I just came inside from todays first two shots . Both drilled the leaves . One at 20 ,,one at 15 yards .

So , it seems I need to shoot often , but limit my number of shots to keep the pain down .
