in reply to: Hunting 2016 #27604
October 1st found me in my ground blind waiting for the sun to rise. I said a prayer asking for a good hunt. I know that any time in the woods could be considered a good hunt, but I was really hoping for a chance at a deer. My prayer consisted of having a deer come in around 8 AM, either a doe or a nice buck. Giving me a good broad side shot. That I make a good shot and that I track and find the deer with no problems. I know that prayer was pretty specific but I figured, why not. It’s amazing how accurately prayers can be answered. I saw movement just before 8 AM. I was able to see a good size set of antlers. Boy did my heart really start pounding hard. He took his time coming in. It took him about fifteen minutes to cover the distance into a comfortable shooting range. Roughly twenty minutes after I first saw him he turned and gave me a perfect broad side presentation at about eight yards away. I drew my bow and released in a nice, smooth motion. As he was running away I could see the arrow sticking out of his shoulder, smacking everything that he ran by. He turned and made his way up the hill and stopped straight up from me. The buck stayed there for several seconds before he slowly walked off. That’s when the shakes hit me. Wow, what an adrenaline rush. After giving him and myself a little bit of time, I went out and checked the spot where I hit him. I immediately found blood. I made my way up the hill and found where he had stopped. I decided to back out and give him some time. An hour and a half later, with some help by a buddy of mine, we found my deer, a beautiful nine point buck. What an awesome day. Fast forward to the 23rd of this month and I hadn’t seen a deer in the woods since my buck kill. I heard enough noise to know that it couldn’t be a squirrel. Sure enough a very young doe came bounding out into the clearing. She was followed by two mature does that were as cautious as they could be. It reminded me of a child without a care in the world being followed and watched by her wise mother and aunt. I couldn’t help but laugh. It’s been a pretty good season so far.
in reply to: PSE Black Mamba arrows #11533I’m thinking that these arrows would be nearly 600 gpi just the shafts alone. It would take an extremely heavy broadhead to get back to a normal FOC. At what point would the total arrow be so heavy that the arrow speed would be insanely slow. But just imagine how powerful the total package would be if you could get all of the numbers to work, including a bow strong enough to launch it. You can check out the arrows on PSE’s website.
in reply to: PSE Black Mamba arrows #57665Guys, I think I found my own answer. I have been reading the Friends of FOC post and see that it would be almost impossible to get a decent FOC. Now I’m wondering who on earth would use these shafts and what are they trying to accomplish.
in reply to: When You Were A Kid With A Bow….. #11432My Dad gave me a Bear Little Bear when I was a kid. I still have it and a couple of the arrows. I shot another kid in the foot while he was on the run. We both freaked out. He was a pain at times so I think he deserved it. I also shot straight up in the air. It’s amazing we didn’t kill ourselves.
in reply to: Happy Halloween #49038Me either. Unless the deer had their camo on also.
in reply to: Primitive Rifle Kill, Okay to Post??? #46723Really nice deer. I have a flintlock muzzleloader that wasw given to me by a customer earlier this year. I would love to take a deer with it this season. I think it fits perfectly with traditional bows.
I got a pair of the 12″ boots. They are so light. My left foot has a spot on the front of the inside ankle that rides right under the flap where the tongue folds. I am trying to figure out how to lace them so I don’t have the pressure. The right boot feels perfect. I guess my feet are not symmetrical.
in reply to: What Have You Forgotten? #35915This doesn’t have anything to do with hunting, but, I left our daughters suitcase at home when we went to the beach for a week. Money was very tight at the time, thank goodness my mother in law was in the area and so was a Walmart.
in reply to: The funniest archery story ever? #35908That was awesome!
in reply to: Black Widow PSA recurve #28872I have an old Black Widow recurve that was my Fathers. It delaminated on me last year when I was practicing before deer season. Black Widow said that they couldn’t fix it. I have been wondering if it was possible to repair it. I love that bow and would love to have it back in shooting form.
in reply to: What's your broadhead and draw weight? #16838Last year I shot Full Metal Jackets with 145 grain Bear Razorheads out of a 60″ 50lb Shakespeare recurve. I took a nice size doe with that setup. This year Beman ICS Hunter 400s, Bear Razorheads with steel adaptors now weighing 250 grains out of a Ben Pearson Mustang 58″ 50lb recurve. No kill yet, but these things fly straight and true.
in reply to: Maybe a washout #12140Our weather in Charlotte was considerably better today. I was in my stand this morning by six. Right at first light I saw three does. When I had an opening on a perfect 18 yard, slightly quartering away shot, I went to draw and my left elbow popped. They all heard it and took off running. All I could do was laugh. Oh well, maybe next time.
