Some bowyers deliberately build a bow with a shorter, stronger bottom limb. Did you fill out a form before you bought the bow where you noted whether you shoot split finger or 3 under?

The way I was taught to make bows was that a mild r/d bow when strung shouldn’t look reflexed to most people. The reflex needs to be working when.

If the lower limb is in fact shorter and stronger, the r/d should be more pronounced when strung which would mean that the string is closer to the limb.

Im sure another more experienced user will chime in with more info.

Thanks all. looks like Ill be hunting up there during the late season.

I think they understand the restrictions around hunting a bit more now. Either that or they are starting to realize how serious killing a deer really is. After an explanation of what happens when the vitals are hit in a perfect situation I think they understood the gravity of a thoughtful hunt.

The EZ fletch works well with vanes. If you’re using feathers, it’s not all that great. I have mine away because I only shoot feathers.

The girlfriend loves going out with me. Her mom though is of the opinion that hunting is an unethical endeavor. She’s coming around, pretty slowly, but definitely coming around.

I agree with Dave Petersen, this site does feel more ethics heavy than some other sites Im on. Im 34 and a child when it comes to hunting. This site gives a lot of space, albeit undesignated, towards ethics. Which is needed for people in my situation… no mentor, lots of DIY learning, few friends who hunt.

When I have a question about ethics the campfire seems a fitting place. Like this question, should I take a 4 day weekend to go hunting or stay at home and help the girlfriend entertain her visiting mom?

If I wore rubber boots out hunting, there is no scent blocker tough enough to hide the odors that my sweaty feet would create.

I think Steves line makes a ton of sense. I dont ever look the animal in the face and try to focus on the feet/hooves whenever Im stalking. Not until Im ready to shoot do I like for the vitals.

That said, I love DIY projects. Ive been making my own scent spray and unscented soap bars. To be honest, Im not sure how important scent killers truly are. Ive had a fox come less than 10 yards from me when I forgot the scent eliminator spray.

Still, the scent spray works on my socks! totally kills the smell and it stays that way for a while.

                            16oz regular hydrogen peroxide

                            16oz water

                            4oz baking soda

                            1/2 teaspoon colloidal silver

mix water, hydrogen peroxide and baking soda in a large jug that can breathe. The pressure is gonna build. Stir it everyday

After 4-5 days when foam subsides pour into a spray bottle and add colloidal silver.

Shake it when you use it, the baking soda will settle.

Scent eliminator is a questionable necessity (I like that term). Wind, position, silence and restraining your predatory aura will go way farther than a few sprays.

This scent killer works great for cat shit on the rug!

I wondered that myself after the encounter. I like to think I would go to the house and ask the landowner if I could search for the buck. If I was rejected I’d contact the nearest ranger, the station was about 3 miles away. Again, I think thats what Id do.

Luckily, it didnt come to that. I dont think bringing a ranger to a landowner in order to retrieve a buck would be a positive way to introduce a hunter to a nonhunter.

Anyone else ever been in a similar situation?

Ill start another thread asking this question.

I think with the Tuffheads you may get a wobble regardless of how centered due to the tanto tip. Not sure though. I put m 225s on and have the slightest wobble. They fly true enough for me.

                                  Thanks all

I feel like I did the right thing and hearing everyone echo that is good to hear, er, read. Im gonna have to pick up some of Mr. Petersens books. The group of hunters I fell in with here could use some new reading material. Not too mention myself.

Ive been lucky enough to recover the 4 deer Ive shot and I planning the same thing with the 5th.

Anyone harvest anything over the long weekend?
