Broadhead, Eat Desert First! I suspect that a horizontal 2×4 is a selfbow??
Etter is lucky to have appreciative friends, as you are to have him to guide you to such a place.
Good luck out there and keep the photos and stories coming. dwc
in reply to: 2014 Hunting #22043I look at the menu, too, but it’s not only the budget that keeps me with one bow, it’s the fear that all the work I’ve done with this one, I’ll have to do over! dwc
in reply to: 2014 Hunting #21196I have exactly a month to go til deer opens up in my section of PA. Loving the photos and the stories already coming in. R2 said it right. Best of luck and safe returns. Looking forward to more good words. best, dwc
Rather than start I new thread, I’ll tack onto this one. I’ve been using 3″ parabolic and 2″ AA style x 4 feathers. On one of my arrows, one of the feathers ripped off going through a target. Cudos for high FOC. I continued to shoot the 3 feathered arrow and it shot just fine. I ended up replacing the feather, but I have to say, it shot right in there with the rest of them. I’m sure that also has to do with the weight up front. best, dwc
in reply to: Practicing the "Cold Shot" #20728I’ll throw in on this one. I’m too lazy to photograph all my cold shots. I have to say, often my cold shots are my best. I suppose that’s a good thing.
The thing I like best about this thread is the honesty expressed here. Maybe that’s what kept me from posting so far!
My first group was at about 20-21 yards, farther than my hunting max by a few yards. The second group was a little shorter, but from inside the tree line and through some weeds blocking the target. I heard a funny noise in the second group that cost me a few bucks.. or should I say dollars here… best, dwc
ps. by the way, the aim point for these shots is the black hole under the first arrow to the right of the main group.

in reply to: What ya got goin? #20575I can feel the potential blowing through that place like a stiff breeze. Location, location, location!
in reply to: North GA Bear 2014 #19023Etter,
Good stories. Here in the Pocono region of NE PA we have had some of the largest black bears in the world. No small coincidence that we also have resorts, restaurants and plenty of dumpsters. However, I don’t think anybody sees bear the way you are seeing them. That’s just amazing. I wish you a good hunt and look forward to more stories. best, dwc
in reply to: Update on Larry Fischer vs The Bastard #18683Larry, Belinda & Family,
I don’t find myself in prayer often either, but here’s an opportunity for some. I wish you all the best. I am also in appreciative amazement that you are able to document and share your journey with us. It does make me feel like family. As we say to our children when they head off to school for the day, “you are in my heart.”
I wish your miracle finds you soon. peace, david
in reply to: Practicing the "Cold Shot" #18482Nice Shooting, Jim. Any video with a well behaved pup is a bonus, too! Good luck out there. dwc
in reply to: Kodak Challenge #14602Those are great photo. Thanks for starting what promises to be a great thread. peace, dwc
in reply to: Not this year… #14599Forager,
You won’t get a cold shoulder from me. It’s the spirit of things, the love of the sport, the love of the animals, the ethics you read about here so much. If you need that thing to get over a bum wrist, what the heck. If you need that thing to make a clean kill right now, what the heck. I wish you a fast recovery and a season filled with good spirit.
All the best, dwc
in reply to: Backcountry College #10 – Knots & such #14596Clay, Well done, as always. As an old boy scout and now a scout leader, I love those knots. At camp a young leader showed me the new and improved clove hitch. The tag end just goes under the X, not below it. It’s supposed to be stronger, although the old one never failed me.
Thanks again for sharing your wealth of knowledge. Best, dwc
in reply to: What spine shaft for 29% FOC in 50# bow? #14461TT,
My pleasure. Most of us are just passing it on or paying it forward, as it were. The kind folks on this site have been very helpful to me. Keep the questions coming and you’ll be offering advice of your own before long. best, dwc
Alex, that’s a great story. That would buy a nice bow and a big bunch of arrows!
Paleo,
Depends on where you live. Here in PA you can sell a long gun by yourself. Handguns have to go through a dealer. If you sell to a dealer, you’ll make less, but it’ll be a done deal and you won’t have to worry about any cracked pots trying to break in and steal your guns. Wish you the best, dwc
