I see a lot of interest in crossbows here in PA. A good and valid point on this is that when the seasons and laws for archery were put in place, recurves were the modern gear. Compounds were not invented. Crossbows with scopes are an end run around the season, a way to legally get out there and still have an advantage. I don’t see a problem with the individual as long as they are hunting within the limits of their gear and experience, as I must do. I do have to see the seasons limited due to higher kill rates due to technical advantages. That would have to be addressed in very specific term. One thing to be sure, none of this is going away. dc

in reply to: Assumptions and Biases #34577Smithy,
good post. It’s all too easy to curse at a glance, but that’s just bigotry. The spirit of the hunt and the best intentions of our prey is what matters the most. Thanks for starting this one. best, dwc

in reply to: Let's See Your Fletching #26833Iancead,
They are a nice looking bunch of arrows. I like the fletching, but I like the look of the shafts, as well. Neat quiver, too. best, dwc
in reply to: Binos in Forested Areas #26813Our family has a few pair of B&L Bushnell 7 x 26. These things are really nice. They are compact, magnify enough for most things and are really bright. They have a wide field of view, which does a couple of things. It allows a very easy acquisition of your subject and it also allows you to see around the subject. I have an old pair of Nikon travelers that are about 10×24. They are not too bad for sharpness, but it’s like looking down a pipe. The 7x26s also give you a bit of eye relief, so you don’t have to press them too close to get a full field of view. The price has gone up a bit over the years, as they change the design of them. Also, after a few years they don’t carry parts, so my older ones won’t get fixed or realigned if they need it. That’s a sad state that is pretty common these days. best, dwc
in reply to: Any folks near Greenville, TN? #23387I looked up Greenville online, just for the heck of it. Seems like a nice place. Definitely has small town feel. Good luck! dwc
in reply to: Any folks near Greenville, TN? #22830Hey Doc,
When you get down there, stop in at Greenville Outfitters. They don’t look Trad, but they probably know some stick and string guys. Looks like a nice little town with a little bit of culture thrown in. Congratulations on your new adventure. dwc
in reply to: Practicing the "Cold Shot" #22242Doc, I admire that friend of yours. At sixty yards, I’d spend 15 minutes looking at the target and the rest of the day looking for the arrow. Definitely a good scenario for judos! Good luck with your house hunting. best, dwc
