in reply to: Winter Rove #55378I’m fortunate that I can use a heavy adapter to get my judos up to the 300 gr of my broadheads. I tried the hammer blunts a few years ago and I think they’d be great for small game. I did not care for them for stumping as I think they just stop so suddenly that the energy comes back into the arrow. The judos sink in or penetrate in a way that seems a little gentler on the arrow. I might have been using aluminum shafts at the time and it was winter, but I destroyed two shafts the first time out with them. Good point on the deflection, though. The hammers were stopped pretty much all the time even in a shot where a judo might glance and the judos will skip off sometimes. Dc
in reply to: Winter Rove #55224The right price = the right color! I put the aluminum collars on my stumpers. They definitely are work the small price and little bit of effort. I use a little hot glue to keep them on tight and they come off easy to reuse when the bell tolls for a stumper. dc
in reply to: Winter Rove #55161Seriously, great photos and excellent shots! Is that split carbon? I used to get tbose with aluminum, now with carbons on e in a while I’ll get a snap off about 4 inched back. Dc
in reply to: Winter Rove #55153A valiant attempt Smithhammer! But did you name that hare?
in reply to: Killing Elk… #54512True enough. But we know that going through the Automatic doors. Wild should left alone. I know… Beef should be left alone too, but wild should be wild. D
in reply to: Killing Elk… #54100Obsession with antlers is pretty crazy. I think a large antler spread on a deer is really a beautiful thing too, but what lengths folk go to is unreal. When I was a kid just learning to hunt, an 8 point was a super trophy and getting a 6 point was nothing to sneeze at. Along with the safety traing were the words of advice, “don’t let anybody buy a deer from you. ” That was not at all unheard of. Paying for bragging rights was crazy to me even as a kid.
I am also troubled by the food plot business. While I support habitat improvement, I struggle with planting a patch to hang a stand over. One guy I know put in a 25 x 25 foot patch of soybeans that was Round-up ready, so he could spray it and not have to pull weeds. So, you’re gonna feed that burger to your family? Yikes!
in reply to: I'm back…. #52839Good of you to take care of your friend. It’s cold here, and will be cold for a few days. It’s nothing like it is up north, of course, but it makes a huge difference in places where folks aren’t used to it and not prepared for it. We have a lot of developments around here that were initially designed as summer/vacation homes. The pipes are not only freezing in the houses, but also in the streets as they were not buried deep enough to withstand prolonged cold spells.
Looking forward to seeing the new bow. I do plenty of drooling on this site seeing what folks bring home. best, dwc

in reply to: Winter Rove #52249We have a red squirrel the kids named Professor Lemons. Think this thread’s been partially hi-jacked!
in reply to: Free Class on Land Ethics #50572It was a good class. I finally finished the fourth week last night. In bits and pieces a lot of it gets discussed right here. It was well worth the time. Thanks for the original post to make me aware. Best, dwc
in reply to: Duiker quiver #49978Second that Safarituff. It the one I got several years ago when I started archery again and I have no need to replace it. Works great and the removable cover is nice and quiet. Dwc
in reply to: Spokane in March #47814Dave, could you repost the link to the support site for the film? Thank you, dwc
in reply to: Add weight to a Judo?? #47808I know this is not what you’re after, but I build my stump arrows to match the hunting arrow, but leave them as dedicated stumpers. They have heavier brass inserts and heavier steel adapters to make the judos match weight. The reasons for dedicated arrows are that I still stump a little in hunting season, I use these to shoot a few shots into a stump or dirt right before heading into the woods and because I don’t want to subject my hunting arrows to the same abuse unless I’m taking a shot at animal. Best, dwc
in reply to: Spokane in March #47798Thanks for tbe update. I hope it does well in showings and at festivals. I wish I be there to see it, but I’ll just have to be patient. That bit about the bucket trip for your pup put a nice picture in my mind. Peace to the pup. Best wishes , dwc
