in reply to: New guy looking for advice #16864
Hi DJ, welcome to the site. You’ll get lots of good advice here to be sure. Look up advice for tuning and stand close until you get the hang of it. Look up videos by Moebow, Jeff Kavanaugh and others on youtube. Keep it fun. Dwc
in reply to: Spring shoot #15675This western Pa or Maryland? Looks like fun. Dwc
in reply to: Emergency Gear #15463Smith, the philosophy is in the thought of who thi ks what is needed and in that the difference between needs and wants. It could either leave you feeling over burdened or cold and wet.
Personally, I like to read about the items for preparation. I’ve always been guilty of carrying too much stuff and still on occasion being wet! dwc
On someone’s recommendation here, I bought Hatchet for my son. He started, then had to put it down for required readings in school. The other night I saw him reading another copy, as a school assignment, so I picked up his copy off the shelf. Great read. Only about half-way through, but really good stuff. Thanks, dwc
in reply to: Tip on straightening wood shafts #14692Clay, nice, to the point. I also like how didn’t just assume we’d all have and old beer bottle laying around. Very generous of you. Dwc
in reply to: Shaking the Rust Off #13623Paleo,
Just doing what you are doing puts you way ahead of nothing! I think push-ups are the gold standard of the basic body weight exercise. I bought a bowfit a few years ago and it was the best $25 spent. Easy to use, easy to adjust and comes with an illustrated card of exercises. I recently made a chin up bar with a piece of old shovel handle to add into the mix too. I like to workout at home. Fold a few socks, do a set, fold a few tee shirts…. Have fun. Dwc
in reply to: Winter Rove #13509Flat out beautiful. Talk about a variety of wildlife. Here, it’s pretty much whitetails and squirrels. There are some rabbits and grouse, but you have to look hard for a place to find them. Very nice, Smithhammer. Dwc
We didn’t make it as far south as we would have liked. We just ran out of time. My friend ended up being sick a good bit, due to a cat scratch he got at home before the trip. We did a trip down on straight along the coast, a 24 hour trip on a Navimag boat. Interesting time. We saw stars like I’ve never seen here, not in terms of being reversed, but for brightness and clarity. dwc
in reply to: Signs of Spring #13160Steve, after reading Sandy County, I don’t think it’ll ever be far from my thoughts. best, dwc
in reply to: Silencers (or the lack thereof) #13131Steve, Based on very limited experience, the Heterodyning just didn’t do a thing for me. The silencers work, I’m assuming they do, because I never shot without them. I like the tuning tips. thanks, d
in reply to: Signs of Spring #12992Cameron, that’s a beautiful view. You are fortunate to have that.
Steve, we’re still burning and will be for a while. Snowshoes still make a better hike, but we’re getting close to putting them away. I have some trees down, but nothing even cut, let alone split. I really look forward to the peeper this year. Two definite sounds of spring are the peepers getting ready for summer and the saw getting ready for winter. best, dwc
in reply to: Note of appreciation #11983Every now and then it’s good to take a look around to keep your perspective. This is a great place to connect with folks with their hearts and minds in a good place. You can also count on folks to respectfully speak their minds. Genuine feelings, respect and honesty make a good home. Best, dwc
in reply to: Marble Mountain Adventures #11102Took a quick look at Preston’s site. Really neat. I wish him well with this new endevour. Thanks. Dc
