in reply to: Doc? David? Everyone? You seen these? #17708I read the specs on this and it rang a bell. Here in PA for some reason you can’t use a broadhead longer than 3 inches. These are too long for Pennsylvania.
in reply to: Stout Posts #17683George,
Thanks for providing these link. I started shooting a little longer distance in practice. I’m only about 30 yards for now, but it has really tightened up my closer shots and I’m a lot more consistent out stumping. Thanks! dwcin reply to: Auto Thrower #17672Man, that’s fun.
in reply to: Carbon Choices #16695Beauty, thanks. What brand are you shooting and why do you like it? thanks, d
in reply to: How do you find your arrows? #15944I was thinking about that, too. I lost three judos that bounced or snapped off the ends of arrows. I found the arrows, but I’m still looking for the judos!
in reply to: How do you find your arrows? #15866I was thinking about this thread this morning when I found an arrow with a judo head I’d lost track of a few days ago. At the shot, the arrow skipped off a vertical piece of dead rhododendron and probably bounced off the top of the rotten log I was aiming for. The shot was about 15 yards + and I found the arrow under some ferns close to 40 yards from the log. These things can really take on a life of their own sometimes, which brings to light two things.
First, of course, is safety. We have to be mindful of the landscape beyond our targets and not just directly behind. The arrows can jump to the sides, too. Second, when looking for arrows, it pays to keep looking farther out than you might suspect. dwcin reply to: The Aesthetics of Archery #14852Well said, all of it. I’m having a blast shooting my longbow. I’m practicing and I’m getting better. One aspect of these aesthetics you write of is the feeling I get when it all comes together and the arrow, released seemingly on its own, finds the precise mark it was meant for. When whatever we’re involved in at the moment all comes together, it’s as close to a moment of grace as I know. Words are not necessary, a smile will do.
in reply to: Hunting setup for 2011 season #13203I’m shooting a 46# Leon Stewart Slammer with 2016 Aluminums and Grizzly Broadheads. My arrow weight is 530 grains.
I did some more experimenting and my 130 grizzlies are flying great with a 75 grain steel insert. This brings the total weight up to about 565. best, dwcin reply to: even MORE contemplations! #61825That’s a beauty. I’d love to go to wood, but for reasons of simplicity for now I’m going to try, try, to keep it simple. That’ll mean these aluminum shafts for now. Keep em coming! dwc
in reply to: even MORE contemplations! #61391Hi Steve,
Thanks for the details. I’ll have to look up some of these to see exactly what you are referring to. I’m only back at this for the past three years. I went from wood to aluminum for consistency and ended up with a nice bunch from guys switching to carbon. Talk about finding enough consistent shafts out of a bunch of wood steered me away for budget reasons.
Thanks! dwcin reply to: Ol' Sage and some mismatched arrows video. #61373Hi George,
Love these short videos. Keep them coming. I would also like to see one of your form and your thoughts on your form.
Thanks for sharing your good work. Nice shots. dwcin reply to: Woodsmanship….. #61364Homer,
Thanks for your thoughts and encouragement. Life can be complicated, but the balance is so often found in the trees and streams. When my kids are bouncing off the walls, even a short trip out through the woods brings them back to Earth.
Scouting faces many challenges, not the least is the competition for a boy’s time. School work, sports, not to mention time spent on a computer, are all things that compete with Scouting. Let’s hope we can keep it real and that will hold a great enough interest to keep the boys on track.
Thanks, dwc -
