in reply to: Traditional Expo's #22387
These expos sound like fun but are all far for me. I’m happy to get a day at one of the more local trad shoots. The Pennsylvania Longbow Association recently posted a list of shoots coming up. If you’re interested in checking these out you can find them at http://www.palongbow.com .
All the best, dwc

in reply to: Just finished new ERC longbow… #19606Thanks, Dan. Eastern Red Cedar is pretty common here. I’m in eastern PA. It grows in the medial strip between the interstates. There’s tons of it along Interstate 80 east of Delaware Water Gap. Harvesting might be a little tricky though. I used to go along with a local state forester when he measured trees to find the county champions. The largest Eastern Red Cedar grows behind an old church along the river. Easter Red Cedar didn’t hold much promise among the locals when I was a kid. It was treated more light a week than a tree. dwc

in reply to: 3 arrow groups on the same target #18626When I first started only about four years ago I had some wood arrows. I had some aluminum arrows left over from somewhere and tried them. When I found I could group the aluminum much better that’s what I went with. Now I’m using carbon because they cost much less in the long run and are easy to tune.
I think there’s something to be said for what Roger said. dwcphoto

in reply to: Steel Broadhead Adapters Bending #15237This is how it happens. A concern, a discussion, an interest in trying to make it better. Great stuff in traditional archery. dwcphoto
in reply to: 3 arrow groups on the same target #14705Husky,
That’s good advice Steve gave you. If you can get some arrows to fly reasonable well now, just make a few and shoot and have fun. As your form develops you might be making adjustments to your arrows anyway. It’s easy to get frustrated and frustration ain’t your friend.
Look for moebow and follow his advice on blind bale shooting. I didn’t do it in the beginning, but think it’s a great idea. I do it now and then, mainly in the dark and it does help you concentrate on your form. enjoy, dwc
in reply to: First Piggy #13968Sounds like a great time. Congrats on the boar. You’re fortunate to travel and hunt. It’s great that you can take advantage of that and enjoy it. All the best, dwc
in reply to: Off Season Gear Storage #13492Maybe if you heisted one of their horses first you could get some real headlines! dwc
in reply to: Less of Dave Petersen, please! #13033Looks like you’re asking for it here, Dave. I do look forward to your views and comments, but promise not to always agree unless I actually do always agree and promise not to turn your views into a religion. So there. Keep the words flowing and I’ll be grateful. best, dwc
in reply to: Off Season Gear Storage #13027Alex, I believe down south they call a house or apartment in that configuration a shotgun house, because you can shoot a shotgun in the front door and out the back without hitting anything. dwc
Oh yeah, Alex, do you ever go stumping in Central Park? For years there was a big, old, dead, beautiful tree in Washington Park, but they took that down several years ago.
I’ve nothing against a good book, but have a special place in my heart for short stories and essays. London’s To Build a Fire and To the Open Water by Jesse Hill Ford are two favorites. The latter I found in a collection called The Greatest Hunting Stories Ever Told, by Lamar Underwood. At first I thought that was a pretty cheeky title, but I have enjoyed many of the stories.
Then, of course, are Hemmingway’s Nick Adam stories. I heard that Petersen guys has picked up a pen here and there… dwcphoto
in reply to: New Member From Oregon #9426Cheers! Get some questions ready, cause this is the place to get them answered! All the best, dwc
in reply to: A little stumping video. One stump…8^). #9349I’m trying to prod George into reposting them… thanks! dwc
