in reply to: 70lb recurve or longbow #40374
I think almost anyone can build up to a heavy bow but like Steve said it takes dedication. 68# is heavy to me and the heaviest longbow I have owned. To shoot it well I had to practice with it regularly and as mentioned if I laid off of it awhile I found myself back at square one and starting over with it. So, I relieved myself of that roller coaster ride and dropped to 45# and 50# and never looked back. To work on my form I use a 40# bow.
Interestingly I read where some guys have difficulty with accuracy with lighter weight bows, saying they need the heavier weight. This may be true for some archers but not this one. My accuracy improved when I could hold my draw briefly before releasing and a bow I can handle makes that possible. To me accuracy is much more important than how much weight I can pull.
in reply to: Let's See Your Fletching #40328Here a few of mine. The first pic is 5/16″ poplar low cut bananas. The bow is an 80’s Hoyt Huntmaster riser with 40# Sage limbs making it a 62″ bow.
Some 5/16″ Lodgepole pine with low cut bananas.
And some 11/32″ POC with spray can camo and full length shield cut with my 50# Super Shrew and EFA quiver.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #40291Smithy,
I snagged that same jacket last year on FleaBay. Mine has a little more blue in it and yes it is 100% wool unlike the blended ones they make today. It has not been cold enough here yet to get it out but Jan and Feb are yet to come.
It had bits of sticks and leaves still in the pockets when it arrived along with some subtle signs of wear. Made me wonder if the the previous owner was a hunter or woodsman.

in reply to: camo paint removal #36514WD-40. I know its a lube but it will lightly loosen but not dissolve spray paint without hurting the finish. It will take some effort and plenty of old tee shirts. Just take your time.
in reply to: Storing and/or Displaying Your Bows #36497here is my rack in the “Man Cave” which now needs some spring cleaning already. Can’t tell it from this pic but trust me its a mess.
in reply to: Birch Bark Quiver #36401There should be a thread on here about building bark quivers. Limblovers Dad posted it awhile back but I can’t remember his screen name. He has not posted here in awhile. You might try searching birch bark and see what comes up.
Edit: Just remembered Limblovers Dads handle. Ripforce, search his posts and you will find it.

in reply to: bodnik bows #41354I have a Kustom King Black Forest long bow which I think may be a Bodnik product. It has that odd matte finish on the riser but is a nice looking bow for the low price. I shot it some today with cedar shafts and Zwickey No Mercys. Very quiet. It’s 45# @ 28″.
in reply to: What a year it's been! #35130Nice buck Patrick. Sometimes getting wet is OK! 😀
