The father had an understandable reaction. All of his family killed save one. Take the one child and run. What would you do?

So now he has deserted to save his only child. Would you go back? They would have certainly killed him and possibly the boy too. Now the child knows only the jungle. I think they should let him go back if he wants to. Maybe someone could go with him and help him in small ways by providing tools, seed, utensils, etc and let him build his own world. Let him have his freedom.

Fascinating stuff. I’ve watched the documentaries. His equipment looks like it was well made despite what it has gone through. The copper axe head is beautifully made and may be the most intact item in his kit. Thanks for posting the link.

I used a Damascus glove for about 10 yrs. Then I got one of those Dura-gloves with the cordura stalls and it is pretty slick. Probably will last forever. I recently got the Big Shot and it is gives a smooth released but takes some getting used to.

I don’t know anyone who has done this and don’t want to. I’ve mostly hunted public land and consider this the toughest hunting there is considering the hunting pressure on those tracts here in the east. I hope they succeed in stopping the practice but I got a feeling where money and lazy people with money are involved it probably won’t stop anytime soon.

Hook and bullet crowd. Lol that is funny. Wonder what they call us?

Steve, I had a friend say the same thing to me when I quit the compound after 2 years of hunting with it to go back to my recurve bows. He did not understand me because our perception of “challenge” was different. Killing any deer with trad equipment at close range is the challenge I wanted. Killing a lot of deer and quality deer was his challenge. His goals were just not my goals so we parted ways. It is interesting that I did not see the new culture coming but I should have. My friend had already bought into it lock stock and barrel way back then.

                  Dave,

Prine has been around long enough his work was originally on vinyl. Maybe that makes him sort of “Trad”. The wife is a fan and has a couple of his vintage LP’s. Now I’m gonna have to dust off the turntable.

Smithy posted that Predator made me remember how good mine shoots. It is 50# @ 28 and it is heavier than my other bows but it does shoot good. I probably could use some weight lifting 😀

I used my old 50# Grizzly last year with these woodies made up with 145 gr Ace 2 blade. No reason not to use it some this year.

I have been shooting the Super Shrew a lot lately. I uploaded a pic of that but it disappeared into the cyber abyss that is my laptop. Well I’m done messing with photobucket for tonight. There are some cool rigs on here. Good luck everybody!

                        Michael,

I have not had to go looking. They just show up here in the yard and if I have something handy to dispatch them I can usually get a good skin. Sometimes I find them while weed eating around the edges of the woods. And sometimes they are too small to keep the skins. I learned the hard way not to wait to skin them. I laid freshly killed one on the composter planning to skin it later after I finished weed eating and when I came back it was gone. It could not have crawled off without a head So I’m thinking one of the crows got it . They love to eat snakes.

I don’t know where you would find them where you live. I imagine there might be some rattlers somewhere around there. Good luck finding some skins.

Wow! Ausjim, hope you heal up soon. Thats some long horn there.

Ben, I’ve been procrastinating on some cane arrows. You make me want to get to work on them.

Well the wife has me stripping wall paper and painting the master bathroom. Gotta sand the walls and paint this evening. I’m fixin’ to make a knife sheath. More on that later.

Elk and Mule deer were once a dream of mine. Even thought a red deer bow hunt in Scotland, the land of my ancestors would be cool. Couple that with a driven black cock hunt and a hike in the heather among the Seven Sisters and I’d be a happy man.

But these days I’d be inclined to try javelina in NM or hogs in Tx or anywhere small game is plentiful and sporting. I’d even go to Fla and shoot some of those invasive iguanas I’ve heard of, or tilapia in the canals. An area I visited once in Illinois had huge red fox squirrels and huge deer. Seems that place would make an ideal hunt destination. Another sika deer hunt would be great in VA or MD and would be very doable from where I live.

Anyway those are a few of mine.

Yep, I still use my inexpensive folders. I agree a Buck, Schrade or Gerber would fit the bill and not break the bank. Can’t beat a Buck 110. If I could have only one pocket knife that would be it.

I’ve seen those adds in the past and wished I had one too. Seems like some one posted a homemade version on here a few years ago. May have been titled “make your own shafts” or something similar. But it may have been on one of those other sites.

All good reads there along with my usual bird books and edible wild plant guides that I often am glued to.
