I received 2 DZ footed shafts from Great Basin Footed Shaft. These were outstanding, close spine and grain weight. Mine were footed with bubinga or cocobola.

This information is Outstanding. I was on the phone with Dave “King” today and he informed me about this post. I’m setting up a new hunting bow for this season which starts in april with a hog hunt in Texas. I’m off on my First ever Elk hunt in Aug/Sep time frame. I’ll be using a 58# recurve @ 29″ and a 200 El Grande. As for arrow shafting and insert/adaptor weight, I’ll have to tune that. My goal is to be over the 650gr Bone threshold and EFOC of 25-29% Range.

As Dave and I were talking, why set-up a bow/arrow to just get by, rather set-up a bow/arrow to work under any situation. The Information That the Good Doctor has offered us is for US to use or not use. Nothing Bad can come from using this set-up, Only Good…. Thank You Doc and Dave.

I found him on another Trad site. I made these up and found that they were spined and weighted as stated in the add. These are 11/32 point, 23/64 shaft, & tappered to 5/16 at the nock. They fly perfect and really look nice. He’s a pic of the ones I made up. they finished @625gr with a 160gr point.
I won an Elk hunt for 2010 and really want to hunt with wood arrows. I know they will do their part if I do mine. I just love making and shooting woods…..

Well, I just recieved 2 dz Footed shafts from “Great Basin Footed Shafts”. These shafts are just outstanding, Footed cedars with cocobolo and bubinga. Shafts are very straight and finished tappers are top notch. I’m off to Texas for whitetails at the end of this month and I’ll take a 1/2 dz with me. Looking forward to making them up.

Did you just say you saw someone shoot a hog with a pellet gun(air gun)? Did it bounce off? What does an Air gun have to do with Traditional Bowhunting? Go ahead and shoot the min bow weight, Look at it this way,… If my set up is good enought to take big hogs, elk, moose then it will surly work on smaller game.

                      Guys,

King/Dave is a friend of mine. This guy IS a HUNTER who has taken more game than anybody I know or have heard of. Dave’s passion for bowhunting comes out when ever the topic comes up. He speaks from Results he has seen from years in the field. What is refreshing is his willingness to teach others and also change when he learns a better way. I truly belive his goal/passion is to inprove our sport/way of life. I know I have learned from him and I have been at this for 20+ years.

Thanks again Dave for all you do for Traditional Bowhunting.

                        Update…..

Well I recieved my Surewood shafts and set aside this weekend to bulid them. I ordered 75-80 Spine, and 450gr weight range.
I first noticed a few things right off, the spine was off on all shafts ordered (69-74). This seams to be the norm as of late, shafts not meeting spine ordered. Second the shafts seem to have a bunch of height spots, not round like my cedars. They crested fine but viberated in the crester…

After strighting them, staining the, and sealing them I crested and fletched them up. I’m shooting Zwicky Delta’s and after test shooting them I’m off to sharpen them. I love making them, I enjoy the time spent on them.

As for carbons, I have made some up for this season, along with a pig and Elk hunt next year. The carbons just fly perfect, spin true and give me the high FOC I’m looking for (28%) 630gr arrow. I love everything about wood arrows and will use both. For hunting I just find carbons offer me more options….

                        Thanks for letting me rant…….

Thanks for you inputs. I guess after hearing this and that about wood arrows you start second guessing them. I just love them and was looking for that, “They work just fine” input.

in reply to: Tomahawk Bows #42448

I have owened 5 of them. I just bought another for and Elk hunt next year. I really like the feel of the grip, the way the bow shoots where you look, and the cast it has. I have owened or shot most of the bows out there and the Tomahawk is up there with the rest. 3 Rivers customer service is second to none.

After the Traditional shoot this past weekend Dave sat down with me and went through evey step. I can tell you one thing for sure, it works! I want to thank Dave for his time and the 160gr Grizzly’s he gave me to hunt with. Dave it’s always fun when we get together and share ideas.
