      One of the good things about CA was the early deer season [ as long as you can handle the Heat!]-haha– Used to hunt Btails & pigs in the Coast Range [ around Hunter Ligget].

      Your set up should work oK, be fine for deer { as long as it flys well}– you can order Tuffheads / Abowyer Brown Bears{both good heads – I shoot THs pers} and get them in time* – If you do not mind the extra expense.

      are you after Co Blacktails or SCal mule deer?

      * both Ad in Tradbow

        Wexbow –

        Don Thomas – “Double helix” [africa – quite unique as he does a lot of stalking] and Dave petersons “man made of elk” [great primer on current methods of tradbow Elk hunting and just Elk info}are both topnotch – I have enjoyed everything I have read by both these authors—

        A different but I found interesting book on archery is – Timeless bowhunting : the Art ,the Science,& the Spirit by Roy s Marlow – it talks about compounds* as well as tradbow.

        * I have shot { in the distant past} but never owned a compound or intend to, but this is an interesting book specifically the science of it ——gives tradbow equal time-

            paleo* – That is the only {best}book you need on the Comanche in the SW – excellent read, fair to all sides, imho.

            IYA – yes I have an older Kindle and I take it to the field with me [ have a veh charger] but as you say battery lasts for a week +

              David –

              This is timely as I remember you said something in earlier posts about having this set of arrows built. I was thinking about doing something similiar, like to have fletcher build me some with the 300 TH in mind for my Shrews.

              currently shooting Fireflys [ Laclair]with 225gr TH — come out — 654+-gr and 18.42% shaft length to back of head. I was going off the instructions in the FoC Chart in the Ashby Library- although as you and Fletcher { Prairie Prwlr} have mentioned length of BH thrown in makes sense to me?! I think this arrow would be fine for deer – but was trying to get a little more of everything for ELK —

                Fletcher what Bow have you made those arrows for? draw weight?

                I have a pair of shrews {54″ 56lb @ 27″] with fireflys[ 68/70 spine, 29.5, poc 225 tuffheads ]that shoot well, but was wondering what wood /spine might work for 300gr TH out of those bows?

                  Fletcher –

                  I agree on point length — probably late in the equation do to lack of long BHs {tuffheads -etc} being semi common till now — when I was first working up my Foc arrows – I was worried about the difference between the FPs & BH length, at the time in my case [ carbon] it worked out OK

                  What was the length of your arrows that made 23.7%? 715gr is ok with me as I shoot 730+ as std [ carbon}

                    GmcCloskey – if you like Dave Peds books & the Mtns try “Among the Aspen” DP & Brandon Reynolds — probably have to do Amazon – used books

                    ps _ “The Big Sky” was a great book — pretty good movie too-

                    pss – in the end if you read a lot – the kindle is cheaper [ if the book is an ebook -lot of classics for free or 99 cents]

                    or wait a couple yrs ————it will show up on ebook

                        Yes, pretty much the same reasons, with the later of the two -having the most weight. Although David Has studied the CO perspective much more than I – maybe he will comment —

                        There has been talk of putting Grizz back in the Gila [I live in NM]but that seems unlikely any time soon, especially with how the “Mexican Wolf” re-introduction has gone.

                          Three 4″ parabolics — although I am thinking about experimenting with the AA {Ashby} this summer . The only “real Noisy” flech I can remember were LARGE 5″ shields.

                                  great story. Have you seen or heard of many Grizzly working there way east [plains] in your province [Alberta? -I am guessing you are in the foothill area of the Rockies]
