in reply to: TBM Article on hunting deer with lightweight bows #139443
Bud
You also might go to the ” search the forums ” ( bows and equipment / friends of foc) and ask about lighter than std bows for hunting – in the past there was a lot of discussion about this—

in reply to: Understanding aluminum arrows help! #139277Hi Andrew
What Richard said – I Havn’t used an aluminum arrow in a few years so can’t give a definitive answer. I remember 2213s and 2117s were well liked for your bow weight /draw. I think whatever arrow in that class that shoots well with a razor sharp broadhead will work fine for most N Am hunting.

Thanks for the info on TAN. Been thru Nevada a lot , but have not hunted it as of yet.
This looks like a good way for interested members to find out about bowhunting the state while helping the cause —-

Yep , pretty quiet.
I imagine most folks are out enjoying the summer weather, rather than inside writing on the computer.
Got hot quick, here in NM, been a real windy year also.
I think I will go out and shoot some arrows this morning while it is still cool – haha- start practicing for the fall.
Have a great day everyone

in reply to: Smoking arrows ??? #138851I don’t have the foggiest idea how to do it —-
But, where there is smoke, there is fire – or the possibility there of – safety first.
Mixing chemicals is something I avoid at this stage in life

in reply to: String question; #138807Clay Hayes has a video on it also ( no jig, flemish ). He does excellent videos on a multitude of tradbow subjects – imho
I’d call the tournament officials for string rules , don’t have any idea what’s allowed these days

Personal preference again –
Flemish- more adjustable/ more quiet ( a lot of people prefer the look of them on trad bows).
Endless loop – settle faster / more stable, tournament archers preference

Beautiful bow – just the style I like. Too bad he retired .
Yes, Texas has a lot of game and Great hunting – but as we know, access is an issue. Made good friends over the years there, and they still allow me to hunt periodically. Really good folks in Texas always a hoot.

Daily problem for me these days — remembering anything in correct order – haha –
What bow is that in the pic ?
Richard
Always interesting to see the variations in speed between bows, and that a 10 to 15 fps upgrade looks ” real fast ” in comparison, I guess because in archery it is —-or at least appears that way to the eye.
Hmmm, the slow, easier to pull bow is practically more accurate !?— haha methinks they would all get the job done with a sharp broadhead in the right spot.

Short answer – personal preference
Off the shelf – simpler, more foolproof in hunting ( arrows falling off the rest) better for instinctive shooting
Off a (raised)rest – more accuracy (easier to tune) – can use vanes
PS if i remember correctly – Martin purchased Howatt, hence a mamba bow from either and or both – haha. Don’t recall if Hoyt ever built a Mamba named bow —
