        Hi stix

Sounds like your set up is working great, and no real reason to change your tackle.

Most people who ( myself included) Dabble in the efoc realm ( my arrows are around 700gr+- tuffheads)trying to get a little extra penetration insurance if the arrow is slightly off mark and hits heavier bone than ribs ( shoulder blade / spine). Personal preference.

          Hi Bob

I Havn’t hunted moose in ontario/Quebec area so can offer nothing specific there, but I have chased them in Alaska. Great fun – outstanding meat!

I would highly suggest shooting them near the river ( boat trip)or close to a landing area ( fly in) and bring strong friends. It is a LOT of great meat to pack out.

I Havn’t hunted CO in a long time thus can’t give any pertinent / current info on best areas to hunt etc . From past experience you will have to go high in most good areas, so I would study up on upper elevation mountain hunting- if you are not already experienced with same.

Having been involved in the guide/outfitting business I would not go the drop camp route unless you can pick where the camp is placed, and make sure any equipment rented is in good operational shape. Best areas of the outfitters hunting grounds are usually kept for the better paying clients ie fully outfitted/guided. Some outfitters( and ranches) will contract to pick up your downed game – nice on a elk hunt.

Hopefully some other members with recent experience will add some info.

Good luck on your hunt and let us know how it goes—-

                Hi Brent

                Welcome to the forum.

In hunting big game, I prefer the bow quiver for many reasons. Mostly because the bow and arrows are in one package. Easy to carry, especially moving thru thicker cover, handy. Less movement to knock an arrow. It does change the balance of the bow, but that is not a problem for me. I also use a back quiver depending on circumstance (small game hunting )or a way to carry more arrows. Although I do not personally use them, side quivers are very popular. Many forum members like them a lot. It really comes down to what type quiver fits your style — or you can use them all, as some folks do.

Nothing new under the sun as they say — did the book mention any special purpose or selected use for the different arrow types? Pros and cons from actual historic use?

                    Hi Gene

Welcome to the Trad bow forums .

Not sure what ” Cactus juice ” is comprised of , and have not personally tried to ” harden ” risers or arrows so can’t give any pertinent comments. Hopefully another member who has experience or knowledge of the process will comment.

                        Hi Demetri –

Welcome to the site. I don’t know a source for rivercane arrows but there have been a couple articles about making same.

Maybe another member will weigh in with a source —or webmom can tell us how to access that article if possible.

                          PS rambling thoughts

I don’t think the missile ( today most people think rocket when you say missile ie powered flight)  analogy works well with arrows. I am not a Rocket Scientist *but missiles usually are under continuous power at least on the first part of their journey, and as they fly the fuel burns and the weight balance changes ?! Their design I am sure compensates for this —- but it would seem to be a different issue than a thrown/ tossed arrow from a bow. If both missile/ arrow/ dart are thrown I would imagine the aerodynamics would remain similar —and are pretty well documented these days —although that never stopped a good argument- haha

Maybe Steve will give us his thoughts on this issue of 0%—

Another thought- since a compound has a break over point on weight(power ) it probably has a different acceleration over time to power the arrow?, so maybe 0% would help there ( rocket) — Dang, Richard you are making me think about Compound bows – yuck !! Haha

                          * although I shot some AT missiles in my youth – haha

You got me – never thought about it or tried it, so I don’t have a comment. All my arrows work good the way they are ( efoc ) with excellent penetration. Steve can probably explain the science behind it ( or lack there of).

Richard make up some 0% arrows and compare them to your current ones, and see if they fly better.

                              Hi Tyler

Looks like an interesting project . I am hoping Steve Graf will see this and weigh in.

I don’t make my own bows so don’t know how much twist is too much—

I  had no personal knowledge of this wood so was reluctant to comment.

Glad to have you with us Adam- if you decide to build a bow from this wood, let us know how it goes-
