in reply to: Elephant with a bow #35952
I WISH YOU LUCK.AND I MUST SAY THAT ALLTHOUGH I WILL NEVER GET TO HUNT ELEPHANT AND IF I DID I WOULD NOT SHOOT HIM IN THE KNEE WITH A RIFLE FIRST,I DO NOT BLAME HOWARD HILL FOR DOING SO ALL THAT WAS WAS SELF RESPECT I MEAN HE FELT IT WAS NECESSARY PRECAUTION,THE LEAPORD OR WHATEVER IT WAS I THINK WAS A LITTLE UNFAIR TO TIE IT TO A TREE.I WAS WATCHING A SHOW ON TV WHEN SOME SUPPOSED TO BE REALLY GOOD HUNTER”YEAH RIGHT” WENT HUNTING FOR LEAPORD,SO THEY BAITED IT AND HE SHOT IT WITH A RIFLE AND WOUNDED IT THEN THE WHOLE LOT OF THE 4 OR 5 PEOPLE STARTING SHOOTING AT THE CHARGING BEAST,THE ENTIRE TIME I WAS THINK IF EVER I DID HAVE THE CHANCE TO HUNT LEAPORD I WOULD ONLY DO IT IF A REALLY GOOD SHOTGUNNER, ONE THAT I HAD PERSONALLY SEEN HUNTING DUCKS OR DOVES,STANDING BY WITH NUMBER 4 BUCK SHOT.I MEAN TRYING TO SHOOT A CHARGING LION WITH A RIFLE IS JUST STUPID.ANYONE CAN SAY WHAT THEY WANT I KNOW IF A LION WAS CHARGING ME AND I HAD MY BENELLIE SUPER 90 12 GA AND NO 4 BUCK SHOT THE BEAST WOULD NOT STAND A CHANCE,IF I DID NOT ROLL THE BEAST WITH ONE SHOT I DESERVE TO BE EATEN.PLEASE COMMENT ON BUCK SHOT RUNNING CAT VS RIFLE.
in reply to: NRA pros and cons #63331i am not terribly well informed about nra but i do know they are the biggest protector of gun and therefore hunting rights.and if i could not shoot my favorite 22 or hunt deer with my bow,i would not find this world worth living in.so for me nra needs to stay.
in reply to: Reply To: Trad hua Falconry? #53281i love it but i must say it will be a never ending battle to pass it,but whate you say is true the average bird of prey will kill ducks more than the average stickbow hunter.personally i would stick with trying to get a migratory game bird season extended because if you succede in that you should be able to extend other things as well.while you are after it i would not see any harm in asking about a traditional archery only deer season closed only when the does hve young and when the bucks have no antlers,oh say august 15 tomarch 30.
in reply to: NEW — Woodsman ELITE broadheads #53270i am not in need of new heads as i still have 6 rasor sharp wensels left, but when i need more they will be the ones.also would like to give a field report on the older ones they are exactly what 3rivers advertised,on louisiana hogs i managed one pass through and after a 30 yard blood trail i came upon a 150 pound female,i would say that your head does just as mutch damage to a hog as many small caliber rifles,i have thus far killed 7 louisiana hogs all with woodsman heads, the head performed perfectly on every one,the heads were attached to cedars made by susan st charles and grissly stick tapered arrows.
in reply to: 2 Blade Blood Trails? #53259i shoot woodsman heads also i keep them so sharp that i would bet they are sharper than the average raser, but it is my opinion that a broadhead does not need to be sharp as long as it can be forced to cut flesh it is sharp enough, look at stone heads witch were used to great effect by the true owners of america they were not sharp enough to shave.
in reply to: Why are small game hunter #'s falling? #53252small game is my favorite but as i am only 15 and not the best with a bow i tend to choose the ruger 10/22 far more often than i should but arrows are so expensive for someone my age.my entire family hunts, but i am the general only supplier of deer meat we tend to eat lots of feathered things as we hunt birds a lot,we have the bird dog and all,in fact i consider my current level of skill with stick and string to my serious carrer as a shotgunnersince a shotgunner does not actually aim at a runnig rabbit or flushing grouse we instinctively throw up and fire. i have shot ducks on the wing since i was 9 along with woodcock dove grouse and the occasional quial.however in three years of traditional archery i have taken,4 squirrell,3rabbit,1 coon,18 possum, one skunk witch the finely hand crafted port orfard cedar arrow still resides in the verry spot the critter died in,and ruffly 50 carp.one more thing montanaford did i understand correctly in one of your posts you said you dont actually have a small game season.

in reply to: Nocks are loose on the string #33746it verry simple just bit on the plastic until they crimp tight enough ,i guess a sivilised guy might use plyers your choice but there you go.
in reply to: How well do you shoot #33021i went to my first traditional shoot in wis a really little one,i spected to be the worst there but was in the top three.
i have just learned my vacation starts tomorrow,2 weeks home in la witch i should kill two hogs at least, my friend checked and there are more in the heard than last year, last year i had only 6 days and managed two with my robertson mystical cedar arrows by susan st charles”finest cedar arrows anywhare”and woodsman 125 grain heads witch i mounted my self.after that i will spend three weeks in missourie with great friends and huge gobblers.
my draw was 25 and half inches 2 years ago i was pulling53 pounds now i draw26 and three quarter inches.and dont tell me my arrows are not 10 pounds spine lighter they are i have had all of them checked they are 45 to 47 spine i am 15 but not dum i am verry well educated on these issues, but i know i have mutch to learn yet.
in reply to: in need of council #31954ariel i have some bad news,in order to kill more than small game you will need a 40 pound bow.here in the us we usually use bows from 45 to 65 pounds most often,i think it is amasing that you found archery in israel without any form of archery equipment there what got you started.can you legally hunt with your bow in israel at all.also i think iremember reading somewhere stone arrowheads sale for something like 18 dollars in us currency.i really must know whate do you use for fletching on your arrows whate kind of bird did they come from, unless you bought them here in us,
in reply to: You Favorite Broadhead and why ? #31470wensel woodsmans love them one of the easiest to sharpen about 20 minutes per head.wear gloves hold the head by one blade with two blades on the top use a fine hard diamond or ceramic hone strok it slowly but steadily keeping the hone flat on both blades rotate ever few strokes never do more than 15 strokes on one set of blades with out rotating,i to had trouble with sharpening them, but then got on the website and find whate they say to be true the biggest most common mistake is trying to hard.ps if you can sharpen a single bevel you can sharpen these, mine will shave better than your rasors.field report 60 pound hog bad hit in spine i thaught but i discovered when he didnt move that his spine was more than half severed.the next day after resharpening the same head i shot cleanly through a 170 pouner .
