Great idea–If Web Mom concurs maybe she can work her magic to keep this thread at the top of the campfire forum list. Makes sense to me but then you have to remember that your dealing with a dysfunctional veteran that is a newcomer to trad bow hunting.:lol:lol:

in reply to: sharpening tuffheads with kme sharpener #50766Dr. Ed is right on. Ron gave Alex Bugnon and I a class at the ETAR –the only downside to that knowledge is that your wife will have you sharpening the kitchen knives as soon as they loose that razor edge:D
Have to say that the KME is one of the finest functional tools I have ever purchased.

in reply to: Trad bowhunting education?? #35434David Petersen wrote: Clay — You do things your own way, and you do them exceptionally well. I suggest that you construct an appealing program, not just for kids but anyone who wants in, so that it can become the model for others. This will also benefit your writing, filming, etc. When I taught college I was pioneering classes they hadn’t had there before, so every night I had to sit down and work up a lesson plan for the next day. I guarantee you I learned far more than any of my students (which, being a Rocky Mtn. ski school, sadly didn’t take much). I would concentrate on values and the lifetime joy and satisfaction available from embracing those values–the value of the deep pre-historical tradition of the stickbow and wood arrow, the value of minimalism and doing more with less, the value of doing for yourself rather than just being a consumer, the value of working with your hands to make as much of your own gear as possible, the value of learning about and coming to love and fight to protect the animals we love to hunt and the places they must have to live, the value of woodsmanship (especially woodsmanship) and so on. Thanks for doing this and I hope you have a strong turnout.
He does say it well:lol:

Join the battle with BHA and other such groups–maybe we can save a bit of our life.

in reply to: Help my poor shoulder please! #35414Seabass– couldn’t agree more with what Dave said. PT is number one therapy–I won’t even go into the detail of my shoulder injuries–all the doctors wanted to do was operate all my PT guy who is a bow hunter said after the first exam was work through the pain slowly best exercise is “draw your bow”. And my brother-in- law–retired doctor–said last choice is always hospital and surgery–people die there.
Best advice find a good physical therapist but if he or she is 200lbs over weight look else where–you want one that is active and runs triathlons, they will speak your language. And don’t forget to have it all documented before you retire or get out of service –makes it a lot easier with the VA. Good luck

in reply to: Treed Partridges and trail cams #34177Couldn’t agree more. Have a cam in the back yard to peek on the critters–will post some when I get the time to figure out how–but like all you won’t use them for hunting.
Three days ago while visiting family my brother-in- law and I were walking in his 40 acres of hardwoods in central In. when we stumbled on a cam–he indicated that he had given young man permission to hunt this year. Then I saw the mineral salt block on the trail–after explaining that baiting is illegal–and unethical–we removed the card and left a note where to claim it and that his hunting rights had been revoked:twisted:

in reply to: Orion Rising!! #34158My favorite–signals the coming of fall and then winter:D a piece of trivia–Betelgeuse–His left shoulder and the bright orange star—The next time you look at it consider that you are gazing at the largest object that you will ever see with the naked eye. If old Betel was at our sun’s location it’s outer atmosphere would be at Jupiter’s orbit.

in reply to: The ugly underbelly of "preserve" "hunting" #33005Land owner rights my butt–we don’t own the land–check back in a few K years and see whats on “your” land.
I’m sure Dave’s next book will say it more eloquently then I. AND I won’t say more as I sense the elegant and delightful web mother hovering over the red key:shock:
