PS
I really want to shoot the tuffhead at something stupid (like concrete) but can’t come up with any reasonable justification for it 😉
Jim
My tuffheads on carbon with 28% EFOC are primed and ready for this deer season. However, after that, if you can send me a good recipe for concrete block I will shoot one and send you the results:D

in reply to: lessons learned #43151You want to be very cautious when using gps in mountains and lots of trees. As the one time head of the Space Command command center—this reluctant grunt had to learn some things–not trad. but could keep you safe. Those devices in cars and used in cities are ground augmented. Sat. talks to a ground station and walla you have 3 meter accuracy. Out in the boonies–unless your with a military operation–your receiver is just getting that 2 watt signal from you hope–at least 3 sats. with the right geometry. Well then we have to talk about PDOP which is more then I will go into here–if really interested pm me. Bottom line–in the wild- map and compass skills will be my choice. My humble opinion.
And Ausjim is not a clutz he just learned how to do that in the standard military way —mindless repetition–followed by blunt trauma.:D

in reply to: Backpack Seat #42017Paleo
Nope its the size of a regular backpack external frame–actually that is what it is. Designed for bow hunters, I hung my day pack on it and it works great. You could pack out a deer no sweat with it. Comfortable—well I went to sleep in it but that is not a hard thing to do for jar-heads. Can send it to you for a look see. Don’t think the guy makes them any more. Let me know at that other e-mail with your address if you wanna give it a
try. Think I payed like $100 for it- you can have it for half that.
I just found the ole foam seat more versatile and easier to move around with.

Yes I have one got it on Fred A’s site a year ago. Can’t remember the name. I don’t like it because I travel light and —any way e-mail at herdering@earthlink.net if your interested.

in reply to: EFOC & Tuffhead combo #35753It’s unfortunate that there are a number of trad bowhunters who are very dead-set against the heavy, EFOC/UEFOC arrows – and even some opposed to single-bevel broadheads. Most have never even used such a set-up, but it is not what THEY deem to be ‘traditional’.
Ed
Dr.Ed
Interesting that trad bowhunters would think that–when was the last time we saw a 3 or 4 blade solutrean, Clovis, or Amer Indian arrow head? Can’t get more traditional then that.
Oh well “think” is the right word and then thanks to your work–we have data. Keep up the great effort.

in reply to: Warm Weather Whitetails #34505Paleo
Thanks for that post. Although season has been on for a couple of weeks temps have been in the 70’s. I just don’t feel right unless there is a nip in the air. Good time for scouting. Whitetails here are moving very early and very late.
I will wait for cool weather.

in reply to: Paleo Site #33370It appears that with our new join, 1shot, we have another Pleistocene resident born 20k to late. Check out this link that Dave sent me some time ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLV9A8P00bw . Tailfeather you will note from the maps that your location as well as mine may be the home of the oldest inhabitants of our land.
Enjoy

I add my thanks for this site. If it were not for Dave and your work I would still be dreaming about getting back into trad bow after a 42 year layoff most of that time influenced by the gadgets and marketing of other sites and business’s.
Well done

With that said, I’d much rather cook somthing worthwile.
Paleo–it appears that the decision is yours–ponder Clay’s response, Davids ramble:D, by the way he hates to cook and doesn’t eat a lot, and of course my delightful experience–can’t wait to hear about your decision and how it works on the hunt. Have a great hunt–maybe you want to try foraging:roll:
Mike
Paleo:
My advice—don’t go there:evil: In stress conditions (combat) you need calories and you will eat anything. Don’t think I ever heard anyone say they are good–different from the old C-rations–which were canned. Oh well we gave up minimal taste for:x, but we did save weight. Make a nice emergency food? –but not a daily diet. On a multiple day hunt in moderate conditions and terrain you are going to burn some calories–best to refuel with something that is tasty and not infused with more chemicals then you can imagine. Oh yeah if you don’t eat all of it–part of it blocks you up the other part is the laxative. But hey that’s only my 32 years of experience talking:shock:. Hope this helps.
