best wishes for the cat fish bait! If it helps once I went through a trauma (wound not cancer) and when the doc’s said terminal I just said wrong and thought through the process.
Don’t give up. Give Belinda my best. See you guys at ETAR again this year:D.

in reply to: CO BHA shoots down drones! #42794Well as usual my lengthy response with insightful thoughts gets logged out before I can finish–so try again.
Jim the distinction from Uav and drone is in the realm of lawyers.
They are very useful in military ops and save pilots from the danger zone, cheaper then those multi billion dollar airplanes and when did we shoot down someone in aerial combat? Of course if your in the target zone that is a somewhat different view–but they beat the heck out of B-52 arc strikes or the 8th army air force in Europe.
Sorry for the rant–so i did shoot my long bow today–just to keep this trad.8)
However they have no use IMHO over our nation for any reason.
That is a battle you young folks Clay, Bruce and the rest of you returning vets are going to have to fight.

Jim you and R2 are a hoot:lol: By the way I like your latest quote used it many times but from this end of the world it is attributed to Rogers and his famous rangers:shock:

in reply to: Backcountry College #6 – "keeping warm" #42726This is probably old news to you all, but last night (in a fit of cabin fever) I watched Clay’s video’s on building a bow–now that is not something I’m going to do as my skills top off at get a bigger hammer, however I must say this.
Clay gives instruction in a very clear and well understood way—that is an art–having been involved in teaching survival skills for most of my life I am impressed with his obvious grasp of the skills but more importantly his delivery of the instruction clear concise and right on subject. You have a gift Sir—can’t wait to see the movie.
Well done.

in reply to: Favorite AMO for hunting? #40083Couldn’t agree more with what Dave says. I actually have both a 52″ and 54″ classic hunter and they are a pleasure to shoot and crawl through thick cover with.
To bad it’s not turkey season as a big ole gobbler went strutting past me and the hammock seat yesterday, range about 5 yards:shock: Never knew I was there. Oh yeah didn’t see one deer:evil:

Lots of great advice here–but my 2cents.
I shoot a long bow (shrew classic hunter) and I used a bow quiver—never liked the feel. So got the back quiver from 3 rivers their cheapest one think it’s called the trad or something. Leather shields on the tuffheads and no problems in the bottom. As for nock end moving around:D man that is movement on your part. Like shooting the bow, stalking the prey, moving with your gear—silently– takes practice. Is it more difficult? But that’s what we do, and hanging a bow quiver on your Coffey original to me is just –not good. In my humble opinion8).
Good luck with your choice.

Welcome! Lot’s of great advice above–but re read Dr. Ed’s.
Yes you must practice shooting skills. But the real thrill is stalking close to your prey.
That skill opens up the non-hunting season to just having fun and out scouting and seeing how close you can get. Sitting in ambush with bino’s and watching thus learning their daily activities.
I remember my mentor’s (uncle) guidance way back in 62–shoot one arrow a day–that’s all you get (of course after you get the form down) and–the real” Hunter’s arrow hit’s the prey before the fletching leaves the bow.”
Getting close is what Trad is all about and that is the effort required. Or you can just get a gun.:D

Just to reinforce Clay’s comment–shadow’s and a bit of brush, some black camo paint on the face–wool plaid clothes.
Save your money, no blinds, no ghilly suits (unless your hunting people). The number one best camo is —don’t move.
Just my humble opinion.:D

Bruce–you are indeed a hoot:lol: Sorry I’m going to miss you in K-zoo. We will have to rendezvous somewhere soon.
Give my best to the Fischer’s and don’t you and Clay call for bail money.

in reply to: What ya got goin? #28409[quote=Smithhammer]Mike –
I actually built this one from a rough-cut kit sold by Thunderbird Atlatl. They offer several kits of various designs, as well as fully-finished atlatls and darts.
They also have a good YouTube channel that explains a lot of their designs, how to use them, etc:

Thanks great links and now another trad en devour. Great video’s—I guess they would consider us high tech:D

Nice work–when you get the time how about posting some details on construction, what’s the leather loops for? I understand the atlatl and concept but the details would be helpful. Perhaps a short video–now that I have the long bow figured out:shock: and the throwing stick:roll: would like to try something new. However I’m not real handy kinda like that bull in the shop–my idea of finesse is to get a bigger hammer. Any help on building one appreciated.
