imade a run by the lcoal tandy store yesterday i needed to get abew belt anywayand picked up some scrpa leather and brage cement. I had beautiful piec eof black thin leather in my archery tackle box i tried first i usualy use it to make caps for the bottom of my bows to protect them from bumping on the ground. well that piece didnt sit down nicely so i moved on to the piece i picked up at the store cut the first one too small being thicker leather than the originoal piece i used for my pattern it left a gap so I cut another and glued it on not bad at all looks almost like i knew what i was doing! ill try using the smaller one on my all wood longbow that has a smaller diameter riser now that i have an idea what im doing. That barge cement drys awfull fast it was about 95 degrees so it set up fast. Thanks for the help and input i really appreciate it. I’m thinking ill do my other Schulz bow next before i take pics to post.

Thanks for the rapid reply I need to try asnd hunt down barge cement locally? im pretty sure three rivers carries it but i hate wating. Ive got to make a trip to Tandy leathers and see if i can find some nice leather after work. I like the handle on your bow I tend to get the suede sweaty and then it looks nasty so im going to add smooth black leather if I can find a nice scrap at the shop.Ive had smooth black leather done on four of my bows when i had them built and it seems to hold up better for me but i do like the look of suede bettter.

my old sky longbow came with a black leather grip and it held up pretty well all these years.

That to me shouldnt be an issue you dont hold a traditional bow at full draw for an extended period. you should be able to hold it at your anchor point steadily long enough to concentrate on your target and then let the arrow fly. Its different from shooting a compund bow where you draw when the deer enters the county and hold until he walks in front of you. The main concern to me anyway is getting to a consistant anchor point and holding the bow and your draw arms in a stable position until your release. I once had a compound shooter ask me why i shot so fast he said cant you hold the bow at full draw? it was a 75# longbow so i said ok tell me when and we both draw and see who can hold their anchor point the longest well he gave up and let down before me but its really not important i was just being macho he was shooting a 60# compound with whatever letoff. as long as you can hold long enough to concentrate on your target and stay stable and get a clean release you should be ok. I do a lot of working out with free weights to help maintain my shooting conditioning. now hitting what i shoot at is another thing entirely.

I dont have a scale but i installed a new string and headed out side i warmed up wiht my 56#@26″ Schulz haha 56# thats funny its stouter to draw than my 72# longbows then I moved to the new bow i would estimate its probabaly in the 80# to 85# range im judging this against other longbows built by A Schulz trained bowyer that i have scaled out at 72#@28″. This thing is a beast but boy does it throw an arrow and shoots like a dream. i must say after shooting this one a 60# longbow feels like a kiddy toy! What a sweet bow. Well time to start hitting the weight bench again and digging out my 90# cedar shafts from my old Stotlar longbow and see how they fly.i’m going to try and get my cameras reseloution down and take some pics to post of the three of them together.

The only thing that boters me with my Schulz is the leather wedge in the grip i had all my other bows bult without that incorporated and i do hold the bow low in my hand so im at the top of the grip it kind of bugs me. If i could part with the bow long enougb id send it to someone and have the bow resprayed with clear coat it has a few small nicks in the finish and have the grip redone but honeslty im scared to part with it. I dpoubt i could ever replace it if anything happened to it.

I shoot the same arrows a lot of the time mine are spined 60#@28″ and i shoot them out of everything i havent scaled my Schulz but its pretty stout and shoots the 60# cedar arrows just fine. i have some old arrows i made for my 80# longbow years ago and they shoot fine from it also. the 60’s suprised me but the bamboo shoots really smoothly so im thinking that may be why they shoot well from this bow. it really seems if you really work on your shooting skills abd use really good form it helps the arrorws get off the bow better when under spined.

Well being a longbow shooting black powder shooter this is great information i havent shot my hawken for many years but have been geting the bug to take it out. i had a problem long ago with it not firing whenit was really foggy out? never did figure that out. sometimes it would hangfire and other didnt fire at all. on the other hand my longbow always fires just some times better than others but thats my fault.

I own two Schulz longbows and honeslty i coulld get rid of all my other bows and never miss them and i have some beauties. for some reason the Schulz bows work for me like none of the other 60 or so bows ive owned and probabaly 35+ were longbows. Im convinced the man put magic into his bows some how. Every time i pick one up its an eye opening experience. I will never part with them when i cant pull them ill just sit there and stare at them rembering what it was like to shoot a bow that shot so well. i have trouble imagining why anyone would part with these wonderdful bows but im glad they did so i could own and appreciate them.

I have two other longbows made by a schulz graduate and they shoot very well but the Schulz bow is even better! I was amazed becuase the other two were literally made for me! for some reason this type of bow agrees with me it shoots so well its scary at times. my groups are tighter it takes less concentration to shoot well. i thought it was just me but im convinced there is just something about this bow. I just saw another Natural on ebay buy it now for $1200. I got my natural for $400 with shipping and its like a brand new bow

I got my second Schulz bow 4 lams of bamboo with brown glass over it for $425 including shipping. The one thing ive noticed is Schullz bows are heavier draw weight than whats marked on the limbs but i like shooting high poundage. but my bow is marked 56# @26″ and its way shouter than my bows built by a schulz graduate who made very fine longbows that scaled out at 72# @28″ but the performance is worth it. this bow literally shoots where i think i want the arrow to go and after shooting longbows for most of my life off and on thats amazing to me. I guess back in the day men were men and arrows needed heavy spine weights.

My Naturaol is marked 80#@28″ and its a really stout bow to be sure but its like brand bew so i dont use it much. I could never replace it so it hangs in my home office most of the time. I must confess all my longobws shoot better than i do! every tie i think ive found the best shooting longobw on the planet i get one that shoots better but I think ive maxed out now.

well ive owned a lot of martin bows over the years and they were all fine bows. you have made a huge mistake getting involved in traditional archery is addicting and as you try more and more bows your tastes may evolve. I gravitated toward bamboo longbows due to thier lack of handshock and smooth shooting currently I own six of them. its a sickness i tell you longobws touch the soul like no other weapon ive ever had the privledge of shooting you may be hooked for life! But luckily you have found a great support group who understands this addicition and can provide guidance and support on your journey.

WEll late friday afternoon my bow was delivered! The seller wasnt scamming me after all. This poor bow must have sat ina corner for many years she was dirty the string had probabaly never seen wax since it was made but Yahoo! its a sweet heart i dont own a scale but i think Mr schulz had an optomistic scale the bow is marked 56#@26″ so i would figure maybe 62# at 28″ its pretty stout compared to my buws built by a Schulz graduate that are 72#@28″ this bow is a bit stouter. but im so pumped it shoots incredibly smooth and accurate. Its a Tropy hunter 64″ nock to knock. I can now die a hapy old fart owning two Schulz longbows is mre tha i could have hoped for this has bee a six year Quest. Owning a Bamboo Natural and now this! the Nastural is so perfect i dont use it i know its a travesty but the new one is s shooter thatds why i bought it. Can someone tell me how to post pics? i took some thismorning anmd tried t take them in 640×480 so they would fit.

Ive got to go shoot everyone have a great weekend and good shooting.

Well my friends it appears that i may have been scammed on ebay! I still have not recieved the bow and had a more than heated discussion woth the seller yesterday he had assured me it would be deliverd by then! Evidently this genious didnt insure the item and shipped my regular mail! like i said Genius! We shall see if it doessnt arrive today ill start proceedings with ebay for a refund. you know what they say if it sounds too good to be true! i just couldnt let that one slip trhough my fingers if it was a real Schulz bow we shall see. Ebay is always a risky venture ive doen well on bows but got nessed over a few tiimes on motorcycle parts etc. ill will repot back as things develop. If it does arrive ill ge tsome pics online ASAP.
