in reply to: The most useful knot tutorial ever. #23023
Luckily I know my knots because they’ve been pounded into my head for the last 18 years. My real job is a fireman and being assigned to the special operations team we get to do some fun stuff as far as rappelling and ropes and the whole works.
That looks like a cool app for those that need a quick reference on knots.

in reply to: Robertson 'Quik Styk' Hybrid #21214I know the feeling about new bows. I just finished up a couple and started three more. Man the problem is I fall in love with all of them.
Dick and Yote build some very nice bows. Pull the trigger and try it out

in reply to: longer distances #18880J.Wesbrock wrote: The only way to expamd your effective range is to get out and practice at those distances. If you want to be good enough to put an arrow through an elk’s lungs at 30 yards, be able to do it in practice at 40+.
I agree with you 100 % Jason. I do that in my practice sessions here. Practice at 20 all the time and it makes the 12 yard shot have way more confidence.
in reply to: How far will you shoot? #18879I practice on the 3D whitetail targets out to 20 yards like Jason said I get a group there and just practice and practice at that distance. I try and have them all about a 4 inch circle. But when it come down to actually shooting an animal I limit my self to about 15 yards on these smaller whitetails we have here in Florida. Honestly I like them around 12 yards 10 yards is good and 8 is perfect. Any closer and its really a tough angle from the height I have to hunt from here. It then becomes almost straight down and a one lung shot.
in reply to: longer distances #18055Oh yes I’m with you on the closer the better. I like em close myself. Thanks for the help
in reply to: What ya got goin? #16900I crossed off three bows on my todo list. Now I’m only seven behind.
Kids soccer games and weightlifting meets keeps us pretty busy around here. Turkey season is over. I went one time and didn’t have any luck. There will be another season to try again.
I’m getting excited a out this years Wyo elk hunt. Trying to put together all my gear. I got a list but don’t even know where to start there’s so many choices. I figured the frame pack and tent are top priorities.

in reply to: BUILDING THE BOW #15788Good read.
in reply to: unstringing necessary? #15785I unstring my bows if they are to be kept in my truck for a few hours. Although I do bake them at 160-170 degrees and most of the time vehicles don’t get that warm I still unstring.
When stored in the stable they get hung up by two pegs and they hang from the string. Hope this helps you out Bud.
in reply to: Coaching app #15745I have that app and a few others that I use for Olympic weightlifting. Never thought to use it for shooting. But that’s a good idea thanks for the insight.

in reply to: Spalted Maple Bow #13576Beauty of a bow and a nice shooter.
in reply to: Bowmaking tools – the bare minimum #10156Bare minmal tools. When I started building glass lam bows I had minimal tools. Bandsaw to cut out my riser shape and from there it was by hand. Everything had to be hand sanded to fit. After glued up I shaped everything with files and finished it out by sanding by hand.
Now things are a lot different.
