have y’all tried the puff balls? I’ve never tried them, but I hear they’re good if you cook them fresh. They’re the other “dumb proof” shroom.

I think I remember an article in a back issue of TBM that would answer your questions. I don’t think it was too long ago, but can’t remember which issue it was in. Maybe Robin can help with this one.

Hey Chris, if you can get your hands on a piece of sheep skin with the wool on, it makes a great insole. If you put the wool side down, it’ll help to keep the bottoms of your feet from getting wet. The wool won’t soak up moisture.

            Nice job BTW.

I’ve never really paid attention. I’ll take note next time I shoot.

I drew a tag for east Idaho. I got to hunt 2 days last year up north in a general hunt area, but I haven’t been able to seriously hunt turkey since I left Mississippi in 2007.

When I was down there, I’d hunt nearly every day of the season. I had turkeys within walking distance of my house and could hear them gobbling down in the river bottoms from my porch. Man I miss that!

My hunt doesn’t start untill May 1 though, so I’ve got plenty of time to dream.

Good work Chris. The stalking scene is awsome. I keep looking for a fluid head tripod that’s packable. Haven’t found one yet. A fluid head would really help with those jerky camera moves. I have the same trouble.

Dido Dave, I wouldn’t drive anywhere to sit on a pile of corn either. Or a dead horse for that matter (I once found a bear bait where someone had a tree stand looking over the skinned carcass of one). I just don’t see the fun in staring at a dead horse all day:?

When I was down south though, I didn’t have to drive anywhere. And I never had to buy any pork. I also trapped them which was much more efficient than shooting them over corn. All that was just to thin them out and get stocked up on bacon. If I ever wanted to hunt, I grabed the bow and went for the spot’n’stalk:wink:

BTW, for anyone who has never hunted hogs, take the chance if you ever get one. They’re perfect for sneaking up on. A lot like black bear in many ways.

For me, hogs just don’t qualify for the baiting debate. They’re fun as hell to stalk but, when you just want a rack of ribs, baiting’s the way to go. I don’t use bait for anything else, bears included, but have no reservations about shooting a pig with his snout in a corn pile. Maybe the facts that they’re a non-native, invasive species that, in many cases, degrades natural systems has something to do with it.

do you have an arrow shelf cut out of this bow? If so, how far from center? If not, how wide is the handle section and, does your string bisect the handle?

You should be able to find some flint knappers in your area, whereever you are. I’ve hunted with stone a little, but have only taken one shot – at a pig. I hit him high in the shoulder and didn’t get any penetration.

Stone heads should be just as sharp as a good steel head, only serrated. I’ve seen folks hunting with stone that was more like a butter knife. That ain’t good. The heads looked great and were very well made, but not very sharp. There is a special way of knapping the edge that leaves it very sharp. Whoever you get your points from should realize that.

Absolutely, you can make a 55-60# bow with a 24” draw. I’ve got a few short but heavy bows that were made to resemble Plains Indian bows that fit that description. You would just make it the same as any selfbow but shorter (if you want the design to be efficient). I’m not sure about bowyers around Michigan, but I would think there would be some local clubs that could help put your friend in contact with someone who could help. Also, the Traditional Bowyers Bible Vol. 1 is a great resource for selfbow makers. Check out the “lets make a selfbow” thread. That may help some. If he has any specific questions one getting started, post them.

I am looking for ideas for making a realitivly light weight suit for warmer weather.

I’m thinking about trying to find some sort of mesh or netting (maybe .5 inch or so) and forming that into the jacket part, then tying strips of burlap to it. Anyone tried that, or have any other ideas. I just don’t want to be sweating my butt off in this thing.
