in reply to: Coffee Mug Thread #58044
A potter friend threw this one. It is my “work” mug.
in reply to: Clay Hayes new book! #58021Congratulations Clay. I look forward to reading it.
I enjoy teaching the art of book making to my high school art students. We study and create a variety of book forms from various cultures. There is romance in the quality of the feel and even smell of the printed page. Old book stores, thrift shops and garage sales are perfect venues to satisfy literary tactile needs. There is a permanence to printed books verses simulated light forms of books. Yet, I do enjoy the convenience of using my Kindle for many of the reasons already stated.
Portability and size are the first two conveniences that come to mind. I can tuck my Kindle in my coat pocket and take it anywhere. This is much easier than carrying a much larger printed version. Another plus is that many books can be legally downloaded free of charge.
Even though I advocate using an e-reader for convenience, I enjoy collecting books and keeping a library. Print versions of some of my favorite e-books also reside on a shelf in my home. Overall, a printed book is more pleasurable to read.
However, I don’t understand the complete dismissal by some of e-books as a reading tool. They are just something…yes…I’m about to say it…..new.:D
(something new that is affordable, practical and works)
No matter the delivery system, if kids and adults are reading it is good.
Congratulations again Clay!
in reply to: Sheds in December? #38635We’ve had some December sheds here in southeast Georgia this season. I’ve never seen them shed this early either. Nice find.
in reply to: Just sitting here #38626Happy New Year to my friend Tailfeather and all others on this forum. Thank you to all who have served.
in reply to: Spring Turkey Hunt #27089And the addiction begins!:D:D
This year will be my first attempt at hunting a spring gobbler with my recurve. I’ve taken many with the scatter gun and that option is still open because hunting turkeys is tremendously exciting.
There must be something a little masochistic inside turkey hunters, because the gobblers will fool and frustrate hunters many more times than not. And yet we return every spring for more! Good luck!8)
in reply to: Man can live on peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches #7983I also usually start my day with a large bowl of oats too. It sticks with me until mid-morning. When spending all day or more in the woods, I pack Clif Bars as well. If I don’t have Clif Bars, I pack peanut butter and honey sandwiches. Walnuts are sometimes put in the sandwiches for additional protein and energy. I will pack trail mix of some form, some venison jerky and sometimes a canned meat such as sardines or a canned fish. I have a sweet tooth so some form of chocolate is usually in there too. I don’t pack ALL of this stuff in one trip. These are just some samples of what you might find on any given trip. WATER!

Nice pics, Bunyan.
LOL Like you said, all he needs is an eye patch:P
in reply to: Blackbeard Bound! #59994Not sure how I deleted the photos in my previous post. But here are a couple more.

A blurry photo of a piece of pottery that I picked up for photographing. It was placed back in its resting place:

😀 Here ya go! I apologize in advance for the lack of quality with the photos. They were taken with the phone. The pottery shard was found in the burial ground. It was photographed and put back where its been resting. There were several other shards, but the photos came out blurry. The sunrise was our view on the ride over. Find the marsh rabbit. And the last is my view from the stand. I’m overlooking a savannah, marsh and the Atlantic Ocean.

in reply to: Blackbeard Bound! #57697Yes! It was a terrific trip. I whiffed over the shoulders of a doe. The shot was outside my comfort range and should have waited. (if she’d been a “normal” sized deer and not
“island sized” she’d be in the cooler :P)
Seriously, from a pure hunting aspect, the numbers of deer that I watched made the trip more than worthwhile. The scenery, the friendships made and the worn out body at the end of the trip all made me anticipate next year’s trip as soon as we began the crossing back to the mainland.
in reply to: Blackbeard Bound! #47823It is all I can to to keep my mind on work. The pre-dawn hours will bring an early wake up for a dawn launch. We will travel a total of eleven miles down river across the sound and up the creek to a coastal paradise. It does not get much better. C’mon Etter….make the time go by faster.:D
in reply to: Longbow Doe #19915Congratulations! She never knew what was coming!
in reply to: Introduction of new member #38389Welcome Paul. Looking forward to sharing virtual brew with you here on Tradbow. 🙂

Yep, I’ve had the same conversation with the same guy…actually it wasn’t a conversation. I couldn’t get a word in edgewise.
