Handi,
Is it possible rifle shooters have been mislead by military trends towards smaller rounds (e.g. 5.56 has a couple of good characteristics, but penetration is not one of them)? Or is it more like the c-bow thing, just an advertising means to a sales end? Or is it something else entirely?
in reply to: Back from ETAR, what a blast! #16818Great pics Alex, and great little write ups from all you guys that went along. Jealous doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel. Jerks 😉
in reply to: A short rant about KE… #16771Haha, when I read the title I thought, “What’s your problem with their sharpeners dude, they’re f%@^!&g sweet!”

An attitude I try to take to everything I do. It’s about the man, not the kit he carries.

in reply to: What ya got goin? #13972Hope the surgery goes well Grumps! My main job this year has been administering wounded warriors. One of the commonly occurring problems is motivated guys pushing their rehab so they can get back into what they love quicker. Often enough, guys trying to short cut two weeks off their rehab programs end up spending an extra month or two missing out because of reinjuries.
My small advice is to be patient and commit to the post surgery strengthening exercises. If you can afford it, Human Growth Hormones are about the best thing in the world for rehabbing, but I don’t know what legalities surround it there, or costs. Here it’s expensive, and for soldiers illegal. But it works wonders.
in reply to: Bows in the Military #13157I don’t know of any paleo. Crossbows seem a more likely tool, but even then I can’t really imagine any application for them.

in reply to: important science for hunters #11087Great link, scary implications. Alas a motley crew of scientists, ethical, informed hunters and tofu munching vegans don’t seem to stand much of a chance against all the other forces weighing against them. Where’s Teddy Roosevelt when you need him? Or the monkeywrench gang 😉

WILSOOOOOOOON!
in reply to: Arizona E Z Fletch #9457If you don’t have any luck with the tape, I’ve been using this ‘arrow mate’ fletching glue by Saunders and it’s magic. I’m a messy, fat fingered bum when it comes to these kinds of tasks but this stuff dries into a rubbery kind of substance, rather than a cement, so any excess you can just quickly pick off with your fingers.
in reply to: Copperheads! #63800Dunc, I didn’t have any decent leather scraps lying about, but as always I had plenty of scraps from work, so I knocked one up last night from what used to be an old field pack. Proof of concept, huzzah!
Now I just need to buy some leather scraps and make one that isn’t ugly 😉 Incidentally I put an adjustable shoulder strap on this one and it changes quickly and easily from a side quiver to a serviceable back quiver too. Thanks again for sharing it 😀

A great resource an organisation like an archery club could develop would be a collection of unfletched shafts of different materials, spines, lengths etc so members could use them for tuning before making a purchase. It’s fun to play around but it’s not necessarily cheap 😕
