That’s pretty darned impressive! I read a book about a guy in the east Russian wilderness that found a wild boar a big male tiger had killed. He didn’t scare the tiger off, the dead boar was unguarded. So this guy cuts off one big hind leg and takes it home. The tiger followed his tracks and killed him.
I guess tigers take insults a bit more personally eh?

in reply to: ''The Hammer '' small game blunt #8849I bought a pack of these a while a go and have been trying them out. I had been using rubber blunts over the top of the cheapo cylinder style screw in blunts. All those rubber blunts eventually had the steel blunt punching through the tips.
So with one caveat I’ve been really impressed with the hammers. They seem to dig in and grab quite well and have pretty devastating effects on whatever they run into.
Like fellas have mentioned above with the ferrule cracking, I’ve experienced what must be a manufacturing failure in the steel of the ferrule as the following photo shows what happened to one of mine just gluing it onto the adaptor when I first got it:
Nothing further has come of it but it’ll be my go to head for tough looking stumping targets to see if I can kill it. I’m shooting them out of my 45# supermag now so I’ll be surprised if I can wreck them.

Great tale mate! I was going to ask about your arrow, as they’ve obviously got the A&A fletching. What kind of total weight and FOC has it got?

I can tell you from my little experience with my supermag, as it is such a light draw bow compared to what I’ve been used to I was lazy with my string hand at first and experienced notable finger pinch. As long as I get good deep hooks and keep my hand ‘strong’ I don’t get any at all.
I could imagine someone who always shoots with a very relaxed string hand would report unavoidable finger pinch on the bow, while someone who shoots with a bit of an eagles claw string hand would wonder what heck rancho relaxo over there was talking about. Experiences may differ 😉
in reply to: Predator Recurve? #7714So I think I’m going to order one of these. I won’t place the order till August, if anyone has one handy that they could throw on a scale for me to measure the actual weight of the bow, just so I can compare it to bows I’ve shot before, it would put my mind at ease about the only criticism I’ve heard about them 😀 😳
EDIT: Nevermind… someone asked the question at 3rivers and they said 4 pounds.. question answered 😀
in reply to: cutting carbon #63715Not sure now Ralph, was supposed to start in the beginning of August but my CO has back flipped on his releasing me for the whole thing, I may only be doing half of it now 😥
It’ll still be good, but not quite as epic as I had hoped for. I think I’ll be joining them about halfway up the QLD coast in late August now.

Ralph, looks to me like those long arrows are compensation for other shortfalls 😉
I know Dave mentioned the recent availability elsewhere in the forum but I bought the Racks e-book last night. For us foreigners it’s such a convenient way to get a book overseas, although my bookshelf is poorer for the convenience. Anyway, my kindle tells me I’m 30% through. I can’t put it down!
I wish more Petersen and Thomas books were available in electronic format 😀
That being said I do cherish that paper-age throw back, a real book, that smells new then before long has coffee and wine stains on it’s pages, smudgy finger prints and other evidence of my consistent failures at maintaining a base level of personal hygiene. I like the idea that one day my kids will be casting their eyes over my bookshelves and might pick out one of my favourites…
That young man and his quiver are too cool 😀
I just finished fletching up some shafts I tuned to my supermag and here are the details:
Bow type and Make: Recurve, Bear Super Mag 48
Bow Length: 48″
Bow weight@ 28″: 45#
Your draw length: 28″
Arrow type ( material, brand, spine): carbon, Easton Powerflight, .500
Arrow length (throat of nock to tip of shaft): 29.5″
Feathers number and length: 3 x 4″
Insert weight if applicable: 15gn
Adaptor weight if applicable: –
Point weight: 200gn
Footing weight if applicable: –
Total arrow weight: 470gn
FOC (as measured by AMO standard..measured throat of knock to end of shaft……tip not included): 25%
They’re flying really well, so I may try fletching the last one up with 3 x 3″ and a turbulator and see if it’s still good with broadhead in the wind. I’m shooting tusker aztecs with it so there is a lot of broadhead for the wind to catch 😕
in reply to: Bow update #61931You’ve done more than most by planting that seed mate. I’m glad the bow is holding up too.
in reply to: What are your favorite trad pictures? #60777Bruce, I remember the pic of your mate climbing that hill. It’s a beautiful shot. Here’s a couple of mine from this year that I like:
My supermag when I first got it…
An old Tusker Aztec I put a patina on after reading Jason Samko’s ‘how to’:
in reply to: easy DIY bowfishing rig #60351This is a great idea Clay. I bought one of those cheap Bohning reels at the start of the year and it’d be no better than your home made one.
in reply to: New (to me) Super mag 48 #59770Grumpy, keep your eye out online too, in the weeks I spent looking around I found a couple in the US under 200 bucks.
I’ve got to say the more I shoot this bow the more I’m loving it. The handle feels a little weird to me and would obviously suit a slightly lower wrist than I like to shoot with, but I think I seem to have settle on a happy hand position and am shooting ok with it. Just finished tuning some arrows (.500 with 200 gn heads) so will take it up a river this week.
