Tons of opportunities over that way. Personally I’ve only been on a few tahr hunts in the high country as far as the East coast region is concerned, Kaikoura is just north of Christchurch, and is a hunting and fishing mecca. I spend my time split between Queenstown and Western Southland. Let me know if you’re heading down that way. The best piece of advice that I can give you is to go onto the Department of Conservation website if you haven’t done so already. There’s a lot of good info on there.

Very cool. I once stubled upon a similar stone in a high altitude tussok basin in New Zealand. I presumed at the time that it may have been used for grinding grass seeds by Maori or Moriori.

I use a right bevel as, being right handed, I find the right bevel easier to sharpen by holding the shaft/head in my right hand and draging it back towards me on a bastard file which is fixed to the bench.

Two bows. My go to hunting bow is a Big Jim’s Buffalo bow 62# which absoutly smokes and is a pleasure to shoot. And every time I pick it up I admire the craftsmanship that has gone into it. My other bow which I have shot for many years is a Sky Trophy longbow 52# which I still also shoot regularly.

Hit two rabbits with these heads this week out of a 62# RD bow at 15 yards. One ended in a broken spine, and the other, which I hit midrift while sitting took off with the arrow trailing before I could get to it. Never saw the arrow again. Although I wouldn’t discount the hammer totally, the Ace Hex is my choice for rabbits.

Could see myself hanging out with any of you folks. I guess this is as good a time as any to introduce myself. I’m an Aussie living in South Island New Zealand. I have been subscribing to the online mag for years, and I love it. My intrests, apart from shooting my longbow are fishing, kayaking, gold prospecting, cooking, possum trapping, mushrooming and the occasional ski.

About three years ago I tried some of the Wensel Woodsman’s, don’t guess they call them that anymore.

Either way, my tapered cedars love ’em. I’m getting great arrow flight with them.

Wouldn’t mine getting some more Ribteks though, does anyone know if those are still available somewhere or if someone has a secret stash and are willing to sell a few?

These guys will be able to sort you out with some Ribteks. I imported some to New Zealand less than a year ago with no problem, these guys were good to deal with. archeryshop.com.au.
