Trailing in Alex’s footsteps is like following the “rock star”. Just don’t shoot a 3-D course with him if your trying to concentrate–his phone kept ringing as he was getting “text messages” from his girl. Dave make sure he leaves it in camp
Mike, we sent and received a few text messages on purpose, just to make your shooting situation more challenging, in order to make you an even better shooter than you already are! :P:P
in reply to: grouse and woodcock #15146Welcome to the wonderful world of traditional archery and tradbow!!
I would think you’d have to tip your arrow with a small game head the same weight as your field tips.
A great small game head is the Hex blunt head by Ace archery.

I’ve had whitetail within 15 yards at eye level many times, sometimes looking dead at me! I use traditional barred cock feathers and 2 white feathers, and white wrap. They never seemed to notice it… Also, Like Bruce says, it’s another thing to keep track of.
in reply to: Ghost Grizzlies #59077I don’t 🙁
But ghost grizzlies is indeed a great book! So are your own 2 stories.

It could be a wide range of reasons. The two that first come to my mind are:
1. If I am not following-thru the shot and am trying to see where the arrow hits while the shot is still happening, It always results in high and right of where I’m aiming. (I’m Left Handed) High and Left for you.
2. arrows are overspined. Either add weight up front or try different arrows.
One book you should get IMO is The traditional Bowhunter’s Handbook by T.J Conrads. Almost everything you need to know about shooting, arrow flight, etc… is there.
in reply to: What's your first hunt? #24887Elk in SW Colorado!! I’m pretty feverish already!, especially since I missed last year!
Right now I’m at Stage I Wapiti fever, which is deciding which bow, which arrow, and which glove! The only constant is my broadhead: 175gr Abowyer brown bear, my only bhead the last 4 years.

Folks don’t realize how good we have it! Between the Adirondack wilds and the unreal length of NJ’s seasons, as well as the insane amount of deer (and therefore bag limits in Jersey) we are truly in an archers nirvana, though true, wilderness can get a bit hard to come by in the Garden State 😆
NY Adirondack early bear early September, with big game in North Country winding down around first week or so of December.
Guys in NJ we get the bows in the woods mid September and can fling arrows to our hearts content until end of February! 😯
Alex Anytime you want share a Northern campfire, or a southern mozzarella sandwich, pm me 😆
That’s what I’m talking about right there!!!!
