Yes I was the way last year never had an urge to shoot one, my son LimbLover bought a Bama hunter at Christmas time, I shot his was intantly hooked, sold my recurves and now own 2 Bama longbows and a Silver Creek they can be very addicting! However in the the group I shoot with I am the only longbow shooter! The biggest differance that you will notice is that the riser are much smaller and the bows are usually much lighter in the hand! They are fun to shoot but not for everyone but for me I will never switch back to a recurve! My advice is if you can find a traditonal store or go to some Trad events where you can shoot some differant longbow models and make your decision from that! Good Luck!
in reply to: Wood Arrows & Removing Nocks: Lesson Learned #9323Looks nasty, did you have the nock positioned wrong or did you just not like that nock? I got them off by heating them up but you have to be careful! I have a dozen cedar shafts ready to taper and finish off! Waiting for my 3Rivers order of nocks and points and my taper tools!
in reply to: fletching glue or tape? #9189I want to try that fletching tape myself on the wood shafts, I wish I would have ordered a roll when I place my last 3R order! It looks slick as hell!
db22 wrote: Ripforce: They’re mighty pretty, and I hope they stay straight. I’ve made five dozen wood arrows in the last two years, of cedar, pine and ash, and very few have stayed straight. Someday I’ll give them a try again, but I’ve bought a couple dozen aluminum shafts to keep me shooting with confidence.
I got best results with P.O. cedar from Rose City, but they are fragile. Ash is heavy and durable, but they are the most squirrely, refusing to stay straight for very long. We have had an unusually humid and hot summer. Maybe the ones I have left will stabilize when the temperature and humidity go down this month, but when I head for the woods, I’ll be doing my best to quiet the clanking aluminum in my quiver.I still am not totally converted off my carbons ( Heritage 150s) they shoot too damn good out of my Bama Royal so I will tinker with the woods for now but when hunting I am going to sling my carbons this season

in reply to: Great target for stump shooting #50090I do the same thing they make great targets, in fact I am cleaning one out at the moment!
in reply to: Spirit Bows? #45426I am currently shooting CX Heritage 150s cut to 30.5 with 145 grain tips, I also have tried 350s with lots of weight up front they shoot good too! Limblover has switched to wood arrows, I may do up some myself as I really like the whole aspect of shooting woods out of longbows! he is coming north next week and we may do up some wood shafts! I would really like to get some made up for hunting this fall!
in reply to: Who makes a good pair of pants these days??? #43719I have a set of Rivers West liteweight water proof fleece! Quiet like wool and very soft, they are kinda pricey but well worth it!
in reply to: WHICH ONE IS BETTER? #43716I love that Woodland Hunter, real unique looking! Widows have a great following thats for sure but I am a fan of differant! But you really can’t go wrong on either one!
in reply to: Spirit Bows? #43712What type of wood are you going with on your Royal? mine is Zebrawood and Osage on the riser and red Elm limb cores! you’ll love it! I also
have a Hunter which shoots great and is nice and lite weight but it does not smoke an arrow like my royal and they are both 50@28!
in reply to: Selecting a bow? #43097It is probably the bows, I have 2 Bama longbows, my Hunter is 50@28 and my Royal is the same but they do NOT shoot like arrows the same! because of the extra limb laminations on my Royal it likes a heavier stiffer arrow, but the same arrow does not fly as well in my Hunter! I am shooting CX heritage 150s to 30 1/4 with 145pts they fly real nice out of my Royal longbow, I have even tried heavier woods and Cx 350s with real heavy points and the Royal handles them fine! My Hunter although it is 50@28 likes a lighter arrow like a GT Trad 3555! It seems that all bows are a little differant and you might have to try differant combinations to get the right arrow flight!
in reply to: Recurve or longbow your choice and why? #43020After owning both, I much now prefer the longbow, I agree with Patrick I just like the weight aspect of the longbow, I just got used to the small riser! My neighbor has a Black Widow takedown and my nephew has a top of the line Predator takedown and the other guy in our shooting group has a new Dakota takedown! What is funny is that I can shoot their recurves real well but they cannot hit nothing with my longbows! They all at one time had longbows they just prefer the takedowns, I find at least in my limited shooting expierance that recurves seem to be a lot more forgiving than my straight limbed longbows but for me it is longbows all the way!
in reply to: Recurve or longbow your choice and why? #36323I agree with LimbLover, started with a takedown recurve and I had no interest in a longbow! I shot LimbLovers Bama Hunter and I was instantly hooked, sold all my recurves and know own 2 Bama longbows and a Silver Creek! Go figure!
