Had great practice here in No Mi as it has been quite cold and windy all Dec, now we have had a major Blizzard 14 inches of snow so far and high winds! here is what I have been wearing: Merino wool baselayer top and bottom, for pants waterproof UA Bibs (insulated) or my Rivers West heavy Hp5 pants, for layer heavy woolrich wool shirt or Polar Fleece Jacket, my main coat is my Rivers West jacket or my old Woolrich Red and Black coat! Headwear I use various types of thin facemasks, shooting hand I use a thin knit glove with my shooting glove over the top or sometimes I use a fingerless Ragwool glove! Handwarmers and a muff are a must for me at all times!Socks are Merino wool and my boots are Lacrosse 1000 gram Alpha Burleys! So far its worked faily well!

I was real suspect of wood arrrows also, never thought I would ever give up my carbons! First woods I fletched were Chondoo and I have flectched a couple dozen POC shafts! I have only broke one so far that one I was shooting multiple arrows at my target and split it down the shaft! Other than that I have shot 3Ds hit trees and have not had any durability issues! My shafts are 75/80 which are quite heavy but they shoot good out of all my longbows! They are quiet and very forgiving and you are right mine fly the same with both field points and broadheads! I would like to try the Douglas Fir and hope to pick up some shafts at the Kalamazoo show!

The only carbon I will shoot, have hit trees, rocks, had them ricochet off all kinds of stuff when stumping have not broken a shaft yet these are tough mothers! I had one arrow that I blew nock out of and it kind of split on that end, I took the feathers off reversed and footed the bad end and am using it for a small game arrow still going strong! Only issue I have is that they are an import I wish they were made in the USA!

I have some Chondoo pine and some Poc wood arrows, I love the way they shoot and the are more durable than you think! Took a shot at a doe at dark smacked about a 3in pine tree, that I didn’t see unforunatly, never even hurt the shaft just dulled my broadhead! I use 75/80 shafts which are quite heavy! I havn’t broke one yet!

Here is a pic from one of my blinds on a nice oak ridge, been seeing quite a few deer here! Got a shot last nite at nice size doe dark hit a sapling! Deer were on the move before the front moved in! This blind is about 15 minutes from me!

We have an instant gratification society, faster computers, phones and always more technology! NO differant in archery always something new, easier, faster etc! the wheel bow industry has to do this stay in business and to get their customers to spend a another $1000 on a new compound that will shoot 5 more FPS than the one they already own it drives their business! Same thing happened with muzzleloaders, when I bought mine there was only primative, flintlock and percussion cap, then out came the Knight inline and now look at muzzleloading firearms no differant than rifles! Why cause it makes deer hunting easier! I quit hunting for years until I got into Trad bows now I can’t wait to get into the woods even though I never actually taken any game but I sure enjoy the challenge! I think traditional bowhunters all have that rugged work hard American spriit that this country was founded on that is why we are drawn to the magic of the Traditonal bow! As to Trad archery becoming mainstream maybe it already has!

Ditto on the hair dryer, buy some adhesive remover,I bought some at a sporting goods store they use it to remove tape residue on athletes made by Kramer works great to clean the shaft after you remove most of the wrap! Non Caustic too!

Weather in No Mi has been real nice, too nice, temps in the 60s and 70s with a lot of sun! I have been hunting 2 spots, one is off an Oak ridge off a dried up pond, 4 nice buck rubs on the tag alders and another new rub not 20 yards from my blind! I have not seen a deer yet in this spot but the squirrels are thick, mainly Blacks but quite of few true Grays! I may dedicate a day to nothing but squirrel hunting in the mid afternoon! Now my other spot is in a corner off a big farm field full of big round hay bales, lots of deer in this area! Have been seeing a nice 8 or 10pt with a doe, seen the pair on 2 differant nites, but not close enough for a shot! No signs of any rut up here yet! Last nite I had 9 turkeys right at dark that flew in and roosted right where I walk out that was cool as hell!

Great shot I amazed that a Judo pt from that distance done that squirrel in, I have shot at a lot of squirrels this fall I have to say that just hitting one of them is a great feat! The other nite I was sitting and the woods was alive with the little critters, but they seem to be always on the move! I have zinged a few arrows off their hides but they are real tough to kill, fun to shoot at though! Congrats

I agree on the CX Heritage best carbon I have found so far super tough! I have a 54@28 longbow and I draw 29 1/2 I shoot a 350 heritage with a 175 gr point arrows fly great! My 50lb bows like the 150s cut to 30.5 with 145 points! I have tried GT Trads, Axis and Bemans all great arrows but for me if I shoot carbons it is CX Heritages all the way!

I shoot both carbons CX Heritage and recently just started shooting woods so far most of my wood shafts are cedar (75/80) and I have tried a few chondoo pine! You might want to talk to Rick from the Feathered Shaft goes by (Fletcher)on this forum! he could really help you out as far as to what shaft would be the best for you! I love the way the carbons shoot once you get them tuned for your bow but the woods are a lot more fun to shoot plus I like the aspect shooting an arrow I built from scratch! Have fun!

Here is my Bama Hunter longbow with a Great Northern quiver, I really like these on a longbow holds 5 arrows, is liteweight and is easily removable! Quiver makes no noise and really helps to stabilize the bow!

Here 3 Cedar arrows that I just did up, the points on these I have had since the mid 70s! they shoot extremely well! I also have some CX Hertiges with Steel Forces heads but I am opting to the woods!
