in reply to: The Good, the Bad … and Me #40101
Glad to hear from you Dr. Ashby I am also glad to hear that things are on the mend. Enjoy your new place, sounds like the kind of off the grid situation I am looking for 😉
in reply to: Eclipse Werewolf Single Bevel Broadheads #40096Thanks for the clarification Blake. I love the heads and think they are getting close to the best out there but I don’t know if my wallet loves them that much 😯
in reply to: Eclipse Werewolf Single Bevel Broadheads #39153I don’t know as though they will be priced that high because he could do Titanium ferrules for that…I have been extremely busy but am still planning on getting some testing done soon…I will keep everyone posted

in reply to: Degrees of Rotation of Single Bevel Heads #63747I have thought about doing this Mike but cost of the gelatin is a bit prohibitive at the moment and I also have to figure out how to simulate bone impact with the gellatin as well. I have found some interesting tests on youtube from various broadhead mfr’s that could be duplicated with the single bevel heads but again cost becomes a factor…
in reply to: Degrees of Rotation of Single Bevel Heads #59218I hear ya there Dave…almost thinking about giving it up at the moment…
in reply to: Degrees of Rotation of Single Bevel Heads #58095The interest comes from reading the article in the TBM about sharp heads and how the rotation of single bevels encounters more tissue as it rotates. I am trying to figure out what the increase of tissue contact is as a percentage given the distance of penetration and amount of rotation. I may be chasing the impossible as the variables are many but; I am at least hoping to be able to quantify the two broad categories of soft tissue impact and hard bone impact. I talked to Blake today about the new Werewolf broadheads he is coming out with and it turns out it’s the creation of a design we talked about together a few years back. I am glad to see him moving forward with this idea. He is going to send me a couple too torture test, we should compare notes when my testing is complete. I will also post my findings on here along with pictures. Hey I have an idea; we should have a single bevel broadhead feature of the month or bi-monthly or whatever. A series of tests could be conducted on a given head, conclusions could be drawn about the pros and cons and we could post it here for others to read…just a thought. Thanks for the help Dave…
in reply to: I'm back!! #57709Nothing at all Dave just wanted to make sure that you knew that I am back around. I did read in the most recent TBM Letters about your very elite attitude towards “Your Wilderness” had to chuckle a bit at that one…I though how can someone as old as white “crap” even explore all that country I am sure there is enough room for us all…lol…just kidding. I also thought you might like to know that I graduated this past December from Eastern Michigan University with my Bachelors in Creative Writing…pursuing the lifelong dream of becoming an outdoor writer much like yourself; now if that darn Don Thomas would leave some page space for the rest of us blubbering idiots I might be able to get somewhere 🙂 Are you goning be at Compton this year?
in reply to: I'm back!! #56634Thanks a bunch Robin it feels good to be back…
in reply to: An Old Coot's Contemplations…. #56122Steve I am back too! After almost two years in which I managed to graduate with my bachelors and have my first kid…a daughter, I too am following the tugs of the heart-strings. I have been shooting a compound (GASP! and I did shoot a decent buck in Ohio with it…DEPLORABLE) this past year due to a reconstructed shoulder but got to the point where I no longer feel the challenge with that equipment. I am picking back up the ol’widow with EFOC set-up and shootin’ a bunch of arrows no matter how much it hurts. Feels good to back…hopefully I will be around on a more regular basis. God Bless…
Best,
Danin reply to: Performance Report: A successful failure #37439To be honest I expected a failure like this to occur with those heads in particular. When you start removing metal you start taking structural integrity away as well. Look at the studies that Dr. Ashby did with the original Woodsmans…the blades above the vent were severely bent almost to the point of breakage. How could one expect any different with even more holes in it? Especially when no heavy bone was hit…
On a side note I have been trying my best to harvest an animal and contribute the findings to Dr. Ashby’s studies. Between school dedication and bad weather the past week opportunites are few and far between…I am headed out tonight though to try again.
in reply to: Dave's bull — Ashby performance report #19214Great reporting skills Dave 😉 I would like to hear a bit more about the Tuskers though…did you try a second shot to hit bone? I am interested because I like the affordability of those heads and am thinking about switching to them for that reason. Either that or the new Grizzly if they ever come out and are reasonably priced.
Hey I am in college full-time and I don’t have enough time to read all this 😉 Maybe, you guys should become professors as this thread appears to be a rather lengthy lecture…:D When I get the time I would love to come back and read what you guys are talking about here as it applies directly to my own set-up. At a glance it looks like some good stuff…keep it going guys.
in reply to: Conflicting Emotions about gun hunting… #19202Pothunter,
I agree with using the .308…in fact I have a .270 that I used when I lived in Montana for many years. Lots of elk, deer and antelope have fallen to it but, unfortunately where I hunt in Michigan rifles are not legal to hunt with. My handgun will consistently shoot a 3″ group at 100 yards off of shooting sticks that I use in the field…not that I plan on shooting that far. Anyway, I wish I could use the rifle but my hands are tied…heres to the wheelgun!
in reply to: Ashby set-up on elk — success report #17216Congrats Dave, I look forward to hearing the rest of the story and how the equipment performed.
