One major concern in my area is Lyme disease. Bad stuff which can break your health down seriuosly. One must weigh the smell to a Hospital stay.

        Montanaford has it right!
One thing though, Go ahead and buy the BW but buy a takedown.
Why? well you can buy another set of limbs if you want to later. Get a yardstick and back up against the wall keeping your shoulders square with the wall, put the yardstick against your chest and extend both arms to the fingertips.Read the measurement and note the approximate of your draw length. Now realize that 50 at this draw length has several variables you should consider, one being that of Bow length which the guys at BW can advise you on what length Bow you should use. Usually longer Bow limbs on a recurve will be the most efficient and easier to shoot (less pinch) and less stack at the end of the draw. I would go even one step further in the draw weight consideration and tell you that I have seen Ken Beck kill Caribou with a less than 50 pd. bow. I would start out with a set of limbs in the 45-48 lb. weight and step up to the 50’s later, after you have established form and accuracy.

I’d rather invest in a good set of wool clothes like sleeping Indian etc. Do not know if it(scent lock) works or not.

Very good point Don. Arguably, the same could be said of those who use our best friend to chase Mountain lions to a tree and shoot it while being greatly outnumbered and cornered to such an extent that escape would mean certain death. Fairly chased? Given the chance to escape? I submit that the issue of Baiting should not be confused with supplemental food plots etc. The complexity of this subject may also be geographical and relative to the amount of hunting property one has access to. Now, am I against using dogs? No. A generalized statement must be well thought out and regarded to all the variables that exist. With respect to you sir!

If you do not use bug spray, the ticks and chiggers will eat you up! Hard to understand these possibilities unless you have been properly adorned with numerous ticks and chiggers! So, to use it, or not to use it? That is the relevance.:D

Good deal Skip! Care to share your set-up with us?
Whats your Bow weight at your draw length?
What type of Bow, and string? Fast flight string?
What arrow are shooting and tip weight?
                How long is your arrow?
Do you shoot three under or split?
What is your current nock heighth on the string?
How far out from centershot is your arrow?
What is your Fistmele (brace heighth?
We want to help you in any way through the tuning process!
Heck, we might learn with you. I enjoy trad Bow tuning because I believe it is very gratifying to see that arrow “Fly straight and true” to the mark! Arrow flight is a pleasure to see, and part of the enjoyment in archery.:D

An Analogy. Wrote a speeding ticket and defense attorney ask me in his segment. So, you can use a Radar? Yes. So if you can use it, explain how the internal components are put together? I don’t know! Well if you can use it, why do you not know how the internal components are put together? Well I’ll answer by asking you a question! Judge? Ok, I’ll allow it. You have on your wrist a watch? Yes, well you can tell what time it is can’t you? Attorney, well this is not a Radar unit! Judge, I’ve heard enough, attorney, but your Honor I am not talking about watches! Judge, I see the officers point. You may be able to operate a Radar unit with out knowing the internal components!
Simblance? Yes indeed, You may operate a car, or other things in your life, but not understand the internal components from which they operate. Now of course I know about the Doppler principle and Christian Doppler but that does not explain the internal propriety of the manufacturors construction! CWD is a disease which affects the Nuero area of animals. There is no cases of a human contracting it. There are however, concerns that in the herd, and food sources it could possibly be passed from one animal to the other. Illinois does not have a Mega Deer Population! They do however have a soil that grows agricultural crops very well. Agriculture plays a large role in Deer growth and nutrition. This in part, is what the discussion is about. I believe that one could assume that feeding multiple Deer from the same introduced food bin (feeders) in an infected area(reported accounts of CWD) That it could be spread in this way (see evidence facts).this is unlikely to be the case in small applications but, nonetheless a possibility. In Mr. Wesbrooks area, Highly unlikely! Why? well first of all as he has stated, “its illegal”. Now as far as a rifle season in Illinois? These shotgun hunters have the slug game down! 100 yds. is not a problem for a rifled slug gun which is scoped. Further than that would not surprise me. The rifle vs. shotgun having anything to do with the firearms harvest is a moot point. I suggest that in this case, Valid points exist by both Gentlemen! Let us all hope that this CWD thing dissipates into the past, never to return,

Hey Dave, Steve, I’m new to this stuff “Ashby studies” but will educate myself through this info which has been “Benevolently made available” on this site. From what I have gleaned thus far, Doc Ashby is “genuine and only interested in factual information according to scientific methods” and from practical experiences generated in the field. Monetary gain does not play any role in his interest as he pursues this study. Now that impresses me! Objectivity lends itself to Fact. This gives him credibility.

One thing I remember about some of the heavier arrows I have shot, Quiet. I like that thought.
Am makeing them up now. I have been swayed by the 3-1 Grizzly type head. I plan to order up a few and try them. I have heard they fly like darts with the proper set-up. Will get back in a few days with the weight, length and drop from 20 to 30 yds. See what my point on is.

Yes, all of the above.Field tips do not have the resisitance aerodynamically that broadheads do.you could shoot Field tips with an out of tune set-up and not realize it being new to one strings. What Wesbrook said; Bare shaft the shafts to see if they are close to correct spine. Shoot a bare shaft from ten yards at your target. Goes in point left, nock right, they too stiff. Point right, nock left they are too weak. You can weaken or stiffen the shaft by cutting it down, or adding a heavier tip, lighter tip. More info if you need it. Just ask, we want to help you.

I’ll make up a couple 500 and 550 grain arrows with 140 grain griz heads. I will make up a couple with Zwickeys. I internally foot them with a few acc shafts I have laying around and go with a high FOC. I will shoot and test these from my 8 or so recurves I have. I will experiment in shooting these shafts with the rainbow trajectory and just see how it effects my shooting ability and range. I”ll get back to you Steve and let you know what happend. Hopefully I have enough arrows in the heavier 400 spine region to take me there.

Hey Dave I get by with the GFA type because I use Vanes instead of feathers. I shoot an elevated rest (springy) and also carry a good sized pack. I have a one arrow quiver on my Bow, the BW type for quick access. The GFA just hangs over the right side of my pack. I do however cross it completely over the off shoulder, unlike a rifle sling on one shoulder. If I had to keep feathers dry which I did for years, I would create a hooded quiver similar to my GFA, but each to his own. Blessings

                                Bow efficiency determines velocity.
Bow tuning determines good arrow flight.
Tuned Bow and arrow combination equal better penetration.
Just looking at how much you draw (weight) does not determine the efficiency of your equipment.
45 could be the same as 55 in a different combination with the same arrow.
Using a two blade head and a 10 grain per inch to match your Bow weight will take you toward more penetration and better efficiency for Bowhunting.
Stay with the 10 grain, two blade, and super tune your rig for good arrow flight, and you will kill stuff with efficiency! I cannot predict the other variables, like how far, and poor judgements. I”m talking in general terms from experience. OK, we are going to Africa and kill big stuff? OK, or even the big North American stuff? Lets start fletching the heavy arrows and buy the big heads! For here and now hunting whitetails in my area, I will shoot my 45 pd. ILF Bows which fling a sharp two blade 400 grain arrow at 175 fps. They are deadly for I do.

Exactly Snuffer! I think maybe a little difference may exist from private property areas in the midwest and federal land hunting in the west. I heard nightmarish stories of guides feeding Elk range cubes and bugeling when they dump the food out. With a client, they bugle and the Elk come runnin for range cubes! What a chicken crap way of doing it! Thats not what we do with supplemental food plots.
