I bought 2 of Don’s books off their website and they sent them out quickly. I am grateful with them for doing that knowing Don’s dad is in the the hospital. Thanks and hope Don’s dad feels better soon.
Great reads, all of em.
in reply to: Samick "Red Stag" one-piece recurve #25310I have a red stag as well. I bought it as a backup bow for my damon howatt monterey. I didn’t think I would like it either, but it’s a sweet shooter. I just backed mine with copperhead skins too and it’s even quieter.
I can’t speak highly enough of samick. Great bows at great prices. My next bow is going to be a samick stingray. Love the way they look and have heard great reports.
Congrats on the bow!
ps- I previously owned a pse coyote as well. I wasn’t a fan and sold it within six months of purchase. Love the wood and glass.
in reply to: Got One…Got Lucky… #23412Congrats. I love the bow. What is it?

Wow. I don’t understand how people shoot these bows accurately. I’ve read of a lot of guys going on large game hunts with 80-95 lb bows and just always wonder how it’s possible. I’m a pretty big fella, and have been lifting pretty heavily for the last 17 years but a bow like that is way beyond me. More power to ya!

I’ve been peeing from the tree for years and have had many many deer just walk right on by it. Several even stop to sniff and lick it off the leaves.
BTW- great read:lol:
I know a few guys who have actually peed into scrapes. Don’t know what the results were but I still think I’ll carry my Gatorade bottle for the time being. And maybe stay away from asparagus in hunting season !
I refreshened a scrape last weekend. Three bucks came and worked it that evening
in reply to: Archery Show… #22100It is cool to see kids in the woods, just wish they wouldn’t make me look so stupid when I’m three times their age.:D
There was a ten year old kid at blackbeard Island last year that killed four deer on the three day hunt with a recurve. I was blown away. He was the talk of the camp.
in reply to: blackbear hunting #22095I’ve been to canada fifteen times hunting them in Quebec. People can say or feel how they want to about baiting bears, but I grew up doing it. A bear was my first big game animal. Killed him was I was thirteen. They’re the most amazing creatures to watch.
I hunted them this year in the mountains of N. GA, spot and stalk/still hunting them and it was intense. I should have killed two, but found ways to screw up both times.
The first time you draw down on a bear at ten yards, is probably the biggest rush you’re ever going to feel in the woods.
I can’t really recommend an outfitter, because we were friends with ours and only payed to fish. We would bring our own bait in a trailer and do all the baiting/hanging stands, etc.
If you do decide to go on a baited hunt, it would do you good to go along with the guides and do the work with them. You’ll learn a whole lot doing it that way. I’ve never just set up on a pre-baited site.
We are going on a lion hunt with these people. They do a great bear hunt too that is bait, hounds, or spot and stalk.

Welcome aboard! I’ve been hunting my whole life, but just switched to a recurve last season. At this point, I don’t even feel handicapped anymore. In fact, the trad guys I know do just as well in the woods, or better, than the rest of our hunting buddies.
Be careful though. It’s a pure addiction.

I once watched a sure thing arrow hit a steel fence post 6 feet in front of a deer. Didn’t see it as it was lined up with the front leg. “CLANG” Sparks flew everywhere!!
Turned my aluminum arrow into a pretzel.
Kudos on getting in to 5 yards though! That alone is quite a feat!!
Thanks. It was funny too because there was no way to hunt this place but on the tiny pines so the highest I could get was 12 feet. She came directly to my right and got directly underneath the tree. I let her get about 12-15 feet past the stand when I bluffed on her.
in reply to: Archery Show… #19872I wish I hadn’t watched the video of that kid. I was feeling pretty good about myself until now.

Just a matter of keeping our terminology straight. 😛
I was never all that great with a compound but I have to agree. The last hunting show I watched that wasn’t Barta was about 2 years ago, and a guy killed a bull elk at 80 yards with a compound. To me, that’s not bowhunting.
The most obese man I’ve ever seen was hunting at blackbeard island last year with a compound and claimed he was going to kill one with his 70 yard pin in the savanna. Pathetic.

The Mag 1 is a 1.5″ cut, which is also pretty serious. I’ve always been concerned about the penetration of those huge, concave Simmons heads out of my bow. But seeing your results and those of several others…..they are wicked, indeed.
I’m happy with my Magnus, though……:D Though I am getting some single bevels next year, as I think I’ve told you repeatedly. 8)
But this one has eleven….:D
in reply to: 1st Snake Project (pics) #17558Great job! Not a young snake though. Rattlers don’t keep their rattles as they age. Regularly lose them.
