in reply to: How do you keep warm? #46144
Sounds like me Grumpy. Last year blue jeans, two wool sweaters, a thick wind breaker, and blizzard proof coveralls weathered and shrunk. Just about caused me a 153 in 5-pt. had to draw twice to get the arrow back! Never again, went to bibs and a parka, huge difference, now I can draw back at below 0, had trouble before at 29 degrees! Never again! Don’t feel totally out of it, I’ve missed three bucks this year all high over the shoulder, the best is yet to come with the below 0 weather coming in Dec. anyhow I thought I would throw my 2 cents in, good luck with the rest of your season, and loosen up and stay warm, LOL!

in reply to: My beautiful NY buck #32171Nice buck Alex, congrats.
Don’t feel so bad Steve, I missed two 4×4’s last Thursday morning, each at 15 yards. One a foot and a half high over the sholdiers, the other one a half inch high over shoulder. I’ve killed 63 deer with a recurve, and for me it is never over or any easier until there on the ground. Better luck with your next shot!
in reply to: filled buck tag #50098Congrats on a nice wall hanger. He should be good eating, looks like a corn fed buck!
in reply to: Don't Do This! #26172Same thing happened to me one time paleoman. Got ten min. Down the road and no bow, found it back in town two blocks from my house at the edge of the street in the grass, luckily still there and no damage.
in reply to: A nice memento #12775Same exact thing happened to me last night in Colo. I heard no bugling until yesterday. Lost my day light while while talking love to a Bull with cow call for 20 min. Was within 40-60 yards and couldn’t see him. Got me fired up for next year!
Ptaylor wrote: Anyone else had their hunting season totally impacted by fires this year? I have had 2 wilderness areas closed, 1 entire hunting unit shut down, and almost all the public land around me is smokey.
We did get 1/2″ of rain the other night, so I hope that will help things out there. If this drought doesn’t let up we are in for some real changes.
. Where at with the closures? I’m going to be going to Colo., but haven’t heard of any fires.
in reply to: Animas River Toxic Release #12021[quote=Idabow]To those of you who live on, near or will somehow be affected by this, I hope it can be stabilized and one day brought back to its pristine condition. What a terrible situation with many impacts yet to be realized. I was hoping to retire in this area in a year or so, not so sure now.[/quote Idabow; sorry to hear about the Animas River! As a cross country trucker I don’t recall the river as I have been across there hundreds of times. Was going to go out there elk hunting but decided on Co. being closer to SD. Was going to hunt Lolo Pass area on horse back.
in reply to: Need help with setup #42356What’s the reason your shooting such a light bow? I started my bow hunting as a teenager with a 55 lb. bow, in my 20’s went to 60lb. Bow, at 65 now for a month went back to a 55lb. Bear bow. Have always shot Easton 2219 arrows and they have always shot nice and straight from both bow weights. Just to let everyone now I started drinking that boost protein 6 months ago and felt a lot stronger every since I started that program. I think I could probably still shoot the 60lb. But it’s tuff in cold weather. Both new bows are the 1959 bear classics, with the feather arrow rests which are nice because water doesn’t seem to affect them much. Just thought I would add the boost effect for some food for thought on you older hunters, LOL!!!
in reply to: Shipping a Bow ? #42290I try to save the original box my bow comes and use that for any kind of shipping that needs done, have never had a problem that way.
