      Dave,

We don’t know each other in person, but I appreciate the way you live and the positive impact you have on my children’s lives and their (future) children’s lives.

Deep joy is what I see in your work. A true affinity for, and appreciation of life.

      Thank you,

      -Ben

Well shucks, thanks Robin y tradbow amigos. The magazine, this exceptional website and you good folks help to keep me going, assuring me that I’m not alone in the good but often nasty fight for wildlife, wild places, and wild people with wild ideas. When they told me about it the first thing I said was, “Thank you, but I can’t take two or three days out of the middle of elk season to come to Denver, not even if the honor came with a huge cash prize.” Which it doesn’t of course. (Conservation is about giving, not getting.) They agreed to delay the presentation; good folks over at CWF. πŸ˜€

Thanks again, guys. You’re all the cream of the crop and I’m blessed to “know” you. No, no money, story of my life. And I didn’t attend the “presentation” as I was elk hunting. πŸ˜€

Dave Peterson is a gem in a world of ordinary stones. He stands by traditional methods, even though he knows he can take more and bigger animals in crowded Colorado. He puts time in the woods over trophies. He personifies good sportsmanship and a good land ethic. He is a descendant of Aldo Leopold. Jack W.
