Great stuff!!!
in reply to: Arts, crafts, and Beavers… #43140I did give the tail/handle project a try, but I screwed up somewhere and the tail leather went hard as a rock! But there are always more Beavers, so I will hopefully give er another go this Spring.
in reply to: Oh where, oh where have the Moose all gone… #40729Thanks for the info. The spot I scouted/hunted this year is an old haul road. It travels through thick stands of Black Spruce, Alder, and Willow with patches of Beaver slough. Most of the Moose I found this Spring/Summer were in the Willows bordering the Beaver sloughs, and my last check in September found them pretty much in the same. So when I went back in November I hit these spots first but spotted no Moose nor fresh Moose sign along the entire 30km road. Trips along grown over cutlines showed no sign either.
Perhaps they have gone DEEPER into the woods. I still have a few more days of Moose season left so I’ll hit the cutlines again and see where they take me. Except this time I’ll bring my predator call. Wolf might not taste half bad .
Better than tag soup anyhow.in reply to: My first shot at a deer #39839I feel for yah man, its a tough break. However I wouldn’t give up just yet. Ravens/Crows might find your Deer before it spoils so it might pay to keep a look out for them. Also a tracking dog might be another alternative, depending on the regs in your area. Couldn’t hurt to contact your local DNR to find out for sure.
in reply to: Oh where, oh where have the Moose all gone… #39835Your reply was very welcome, at least from my point of view. Always good to see another Canuck on this site.

in reply to: Is this safe? #17372Hubertus, there was no damage to the shafts? I tried it on one shaft and found that the nock fit very loosely afterwards. Perhaps the heat caused the shaft to expand. Have you noticed this, and if so does the shaft eventually revert back to original size?

in reply to: Am I too sensitive?LOL #56840The word cull is disrespectful. But then again I feel the same way about the word harvest. I might harvest wheat, apples or taters, but I KILL Deer, Rabbits, Bear, etc. Iv’e never heard somebody say that Wolves harvest their prey. I think its sad that we hunters and especially traditionalists, who care more for the game we hunt than any other demographic that I know of, feel the need to hide behind a word used to “soften” an act that we take so seriously. Almost makes me feel like we are apologising, when we are not doing any wrong in the first place.
