in reply to: cover your fletchings? #42398
I use the water proofing powder that you can get at the online archery stores and was amazed at how well they work to repel water off. (on a side note my opinion with the anthrax scare a couple years back is the person was a traditional shooter. that water proofing powder is so light and fine and floats up in the air like nothing)
As far as the color goes on the fletching I actually use it to cover my face when I have my quiver attach to my bow 🙂
in reply to: Treed Partridges and trail cams #33777I do not personally use trail cameras but of course I like to see photos from them. Personally I like the unknown, I hunt on public ground and I go out several times prior to the first day of hunting and scout the woods and set up my ground blinds. I do not need a camera to know that deer are in the area that I set up my blinds, I know for fact that they are there. As far as when it comes to seeing what kind of deer are in the area, I like that to be a secret and a surprise. If I am hunting the area for weeks or a month into the season and see nothing but doe and I see a monster buck come by that I had no idea about man what a great feeling that would be. I also have compared hunting to reading a book I do not want to know bits and pieces of the story or how it will end before I even start reading it.
That is my personal take on it, I do not mind trail cameras I just prefer not to use them for hunting.
in reply to: Bow length #26048Perfect. That is exactly what I needed to here. Thank you for the help!
in reply to: bowfishing reel question? #38242I can see what I can do with the pictures but I will say this I had my first trad kill the very first day I took it out 🙂 The only issue that I had was I put the tuna can on my bottom limb and the can kept slipping down my limb. It did work very well thou. Like I mentioned before I took the tuna can two holes on the bottom and took 2 zip ties and wrapped it around the limb then clipped the extra tie that was hanging off
in reply to: bowfishing reel question? #34559I think I have it figured out. I was looking around the house for some sort of inspiration, I figure since I do not have the bracing or the actual round reel that I could take a tuna can cut two holes at the bottom of the empty can and take a zip tie and put it thru the holes and wrap it around my bow. It worked great! Now just have to go out and test it!!

I’ve heard the same said for blue.
I use a two blue and one white but my arrows I use are camo….why they make camo arrows I don’t understand 🙂
I can’t say that I see they arrow light any better with blue fletching but have notice that you can catch the arrow flight much easier with the tracer fur on it. I am going to try that out on a few of my stumping arrows.
in reply to: unstringing necessary? #10814Even thou I have heard that keeping a bow strung time and time again will not cause damage, I feel that a strung bow is a working bow. When it is unstrung it is now at rest. I also always store my bow horizontal to keep the weight off of the limbs as well.
in reply to: Kansas legalized crossbows during archery season #48338Welcome to the club…I see them no different then compound bows, its a bow that assists the shooter.

in reply to: Deer sent and Human urin #28381Tell him to eat a bunch of asparagus and go leak in the woods and see if that bothers the deer 😉
in reply to: what quivers do you prefer? #28126I never liked the back quivers for hunting. To me it seemed like the arrows would get hung up on the limbs and sticks that I walk thru getting to my blind. I use a Great Northern bow quiver to walk into the woods with and once I get to my blind I take that thing off and set it aside until I leave. The reason for this is, I think that a bow quiver will actually reduce your performance of your bow. I never shoot with a bow mount and to all of a sudden once hunting starts to use one seems alittle silly to me.
in reply to: Abell's instinctive shooting books – a question #28119I have read all of Freds books and would recommend all of them for sure. I did pull something new out of each book even thou he does touch on the same or similar topics from book to book.
Also if you are looking for instructional dvd’s the Masters of the Barebow collection is pretty awesome. It takes you thru several different styles of shooting traditional equipment. Even thou I do not personally use some of the techniques that are in the DVD, I did come away with not only learning something new from each technique but also using a portion of the techniques in my shooting.
