in reply to: Diving into Wood Arrow Building #137326
Grr! That is frustrating and I’m sorry it happened. I can’t say why it was blocked, but I have made some changes so that your posts should not be blocked. We really value you as a member here and aren’t trying to make this difficult.
The unfortunate thing is that we get hack attempts that are about 10 times our actual visitor rates. And those nefarious folks spoof actual real IP addresses, phone numbers, etc. Makes me furious, and more so when it actually blocks real members. Anyway, I think I have it corrected for you and I hope that you will try to answer Kristin’s questions.
Just in case, please copy your text before you hit the submit button, or write it in Word or some other text editor so you don’t have to write it over if it doesn’t work. Please let me know if you have any more trouble on our site.
Is anyone else running into this problem?

in reply to: Russia Allows Bowhunting #137137I think Don Thomas has some great stories about hunting in Russia in his book Longbows in the Far North. About the same time we were starting the magazine, Don, Dick Robertson, Doug Borland and several others were doing some exploratory hunts there. It only lasted a few years but I remember thinking that was pretty cool and very risky.

Hi Jim! Welcome to the campfire. We’ve had some discussions here in the past about Bama Bows. I think everyone who had one loved it. I don’t think they are being made anymore, but I could be wrong. Type “bama” (without quotes) into the search box above to find some of the threads. Not all will be about Bama Bows as the search will also bring up words like Alabama, etc. (Our search thing is funky in that it doesn’t like multiple word searches.) Good luck. Hopefully, some members who own one will chime in.

in reply to: First Ever Trad Arrow Build #136426Hi Adam,
Welcome to the tradbow family! We have some great arrow builders here. Might take a day or two for feedback, but they’ll be along. If you have any questions about the site, just let me know.

in reply to: Questions About Arrows #136414I was going to suggest that after practicing with the light bow and getting warmed up. Shoot just a few arrows through the heavier bow, focusing on form and not necessarily hitting the right spot.
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #136224Aeronut, I agree that there are more places in America that I’d also like to see. I also seem to remember you had a crazy busy work schedule, so I’m glad to hear you have retired and get to travel around a bit. Hopefully you are still making beautiful wood arrows too! I’m glad to see you back on the forum.
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #136201That’s great David. It’s okay to post it in this thread, as it’s kind of off topic stuff.
Speaking of off topic, I finally got to go to France with T.J. Two weeks with some time in Paris and some in the countryside. It was wonderful! I definitely felt like an Idaho hick in the big city! This was taken on our last night in Paris at, as my granddaughter calls it, the Awful Tower.
in reply to: Questions About Arrows #136036Hi Kristin! Welcome to the site. You’ll find a wealth of information here and the other members are very helpful. The journey into traditional bowhunting can seem confusing, but remember to keep it simple and have fun. Don’t overthink this stuff all at once.
I also suggest that you get a copy of The Traditional Bowhunter’s Handbook. I have to tell you, my husband wrote the book, but others here will attest to the useful information and answers to many of your questions. We sell it here or you can get it from your favorite traditional archery supplier. There are several of those advertised in our magazine but you could start with 3Rivers Archery, Kustom King Traditional Archery, Lost Nation Archery, or The Nocking Point, just to name a few. Most sporting goods stores don’t carry supplies for traditional archery, so a lot of it is purchased online or at traditional shoots and shows. Every one of these stores has knowledgable staff who are passionate about traditional archery.
Didn’t mean to get so wordy. Enjoy your new journey!

Those older bows were not built for today’s non-stretch string material (Fast Flight). When you order a string, tell them it’s for an old bow.
Wow, that sounds like an interesting bow. How do the two pieces go together? Hopefully, someone will chime in soon with suggestions.
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #135322Merry Christmas to all of you from me and T.J. It’s fairly quiet around here, but we’ll have brunch with our daughter’s family tomorrow. Looks like we’ll get snow overnight. I love a white Christmas.
Many blessings to all of you!

in reply to: Backcountry Hunters and Anglers Fundraiser #134846No problem, Jim. We are supporters of BHA and I’ll take a look at that link. Thanks for sharing.
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #134694I will add my thanks as well to all veterans and their families. We have three veterans on our staff who we are very proud of; T.J, Amanda and David.
