Just doin’ my job, Joe! ๐
I really do have the best job in the world, and I love it! I hope you will post pictures and details from your project.
The article suggested sanding the old finish off. Does anyone else have experience refinishing bows or removing paint?

I found an article from Jun/Jul 2010 called Recycling Recurves by Justin Thaxton. The file is too large to post, so I’ll email it to jlmiller. If that isn’t the one you were talking about Codger, could you find it for us? I didn’t see anything else along those lines.
We also offer an index file in the Download Library that is available to all members. It lists the articles that have been printed over the years, and tells you if that issue is available in print or sold out. If you have any questions just post them or send me a PM.
in reply to: Newbie looking for first longbow #9357You might also check Rocky Mtn. Specialty Gear and Archery Past. I’m sure there are other magazine advertisers who sell used bows, but those are the first two that come to mind. Both are reputable businesses.
in reply to: A hunting widow's philosophy #60913Congratulations! Great story. The best thing to bring into a marriage is a sense of humor. ๐
in reply to: Hunting Help!?!?!?!? #56571Hi Alex, and welcome to the family. It sounds like you found the right place for meeting other traditional hunters and making new friends.
Traditional Bowhunterยฎ has published too many elk articles to list them all. We offer an index file in the Download Library. It is an Excel spreadsheet, and you can search and sort any way you like. The grayed-out titles are sold out issues, but those are available here to Premium Members. The other titles are available in printed back issues, which can be purchased by phone or through the Shopping Cart System. Please let me know if you need any help with the index file or the web site.
Your new friend, David Petersen, has also written an excellent book about elk. You can purchase A Man Made of Elk from us or directly from Dave at http://www.davidpetersenbooks.com. ๐
Take care,
Robin

Well it appears we found something that an iPhone doesn’t do well. ๐ฏ TradSpace looks for a picture in your file system, so it looks like you will have to do that from a computer, or maybe a Samsung tablet that has access to .jpg or .gif files. I imagine it’s the same when you try to attach a file in the forums or photo galleries too.
And for your next question, it will probably be a long time before we “have an app for that.” 8)
in reply to: Evening dog walk #51849Hiram, I believe Dave is gone for a week or two, but I’m sure he will answer when he returns.
in reply to: Hunting, Bows and todays youth #45739G, the post is fine. The part about them asking you to leave upsets me. It’s so short-sighted, but I know the feeling. When we lived in Western Washington we could hardly tell people we ate meat much less hunted for it. ๐
I suggest you contact Nick Dedaker at Compton Traditional Bowhunters. His email is rndedaker@aol.com. Their education program is one of the best in the nation. I hope they can help you.
Good luck with your project. It sounds like a great program!
They are worse this year in SW Idaho. I also read that the mosquitos will be down, due to a dry spring and less standing water, but they will be more likely to carry West Nile virus because birds and skeeters are using the same (limited) water.
Any tips for tick or mosquito repellant?
in reply to: Aerial Target Thrower Ideas? #35482Check your local Goodwill or donation stores first. They usually have old stuffed animals for really cheap. I would guess those things might be too heavy for a rubberband to launch, but it will be fun to play with it.
I might have contact information for Larry Schwartz (mentioned in the article) and he might have contact info for the author. Larry is nice guy and I think he’d be happy to answer any questions you might have.
Be sure and get your chores done before you get engrossed in this project. I can see you “playing” all weekend. ๐
in reply to: Aerial Target Thrower Ideas? #34765Here you go! The article is in the digital edition “pageflip” format. That was the best way to get good detail on the plans without making the file HUGE. It can be printed or downloaded, and if anyone needs a higher resolution file of just the plans, send me a PM.
Larry’s Brilliant Brace of Birds by William Josler
I think T.J. hunted with these gentlemen from Maryland a while back. If I remember correctly, he hit the first pheasant he shot at, and then missed the next 20. Should have stopped at one! ๐
in reply to: Aerial Target Thrower Ideas? #34309The Aug/Sep 03 issue has an article by William Josler about shooting pheasants with traditional archery tackle. He goes into great detail about a launcher that throws plastic water bottles up in the air. I don’t know if that is what you are looking for, but I can post the article later this evening. I’m working in the Subscription Office today and I can’t find a scanner to save my life. ๐ฏ I’ll do it as soon as I get back to my home office.
in reply to: Ebay bow redo #28960handirifle wrote: I typed up a long post a couple hours ago, and when I TRIED to post it, I discovered I had been auto logged off and it got rid of everything I typed. Very frustrating, since there is no warning whatsoever.
I will try again, but will do it in short bursts this time.
Thanks for the great start to this thread. To address the timeout issue; you should have 1 hour to type your post before you get logged out, however, every once in a while the vendor “fixes” something and we go back to 20 minutes. ๐ฟ Quite irritating! I’m testing it now and I will have it fixed. My suggestion to anyone typing a really long post; make a copy before you hit that save button. (Edit-Select All, Edit-Copy.) Sometimes you can log in and then use your back arrow to get back to the post as well. I apologize for the frustration.
in reply to: broadheads #23168Andrew asked about single bevel heads according to Dr. Ashby’s studies and where to get them. He didn’t ask which is the best method or why he should or should not follow these guidelines. Now the poor guy has been dragged down with this recurring argument.
Dr. Ashby’s studies have changed the way a lot of folks look at broadheads and arrows, and he has dedicated his life to this work. If it isn’t for you, please don’t be disrespectful or critical of anyone who wishes to follow his guidelines. Conversely, if someone decides to keep doing things their own way, please show them the same consideration.
We have a whole forum dedicated to conversations about Ashby related studies. Perhaps this thread should have been moved there before it got all twisted up. Let’s get back to the topic at hand, where to get good single bevel heads, and just agree to disagree. It’s Webmothers Day, don’t make me come back in here. 8)
In the future, if your thread is pertaining to questions about Ashby related topics, please post in the Friends of FOC forum.
in reply to: Original Natal Study… #9788Hello Munsterman, and welcome to the forum. Dr. Ashby pops in from time to time so maybe he can help you find exactly what you are looking for.
At the top of this forum is a thread called Links to Ashby Reports. There you will find links to all of the studies and related material. One link, TBM Articles gives a listing of those that were published in Traditional Bowhunter. These articles are available to all members to be read on the site, but not downloaded.
I thought there was a summary but when I peeked briefly I couldn’t find it. Perhaps as you browse through them it will pop up. Let me know if you have any questions or problems with the files.
