Point taken. I didn’t mean to single you out in my warning, only to keep the topic on track. Thanks to all of you for a very interesting conversation. I had a great time fishing. Guess I should have shot my bow. ๐
in reply to: Why the need for so many different sportsmen orgs? #377268) Let’s keep this more on the hunting/sportsmen topic and steer clear of the political generalizations as much as possible. We’ve done the NRA topic a number of times, let’s not go there. Please keep your answers focused on the original question.
I’m going fishing in the morning. Y’all behave!

If a block of trad hunters, who are all opposed to “the book” and all the gizmo’s joined up at the same time… Maybe tradbow could have a link where people could join up and send a pre-written message with their application ๐ฏ
Otherwise it’s just much sound and fury that signify nothing…
The issue here is how many of you are Regular Members of P&Y? General members in the Pope and Young Club can only vote for the Second Vice President. All other voting rights are withheld until you reach Regular Membership status. I can’t find the requirements for Regular Membership on their site, but I think it’s not a quick or easy process. This is not to discourage anyone from joining; I think each person needs to make that decision for himself. It would be great to have more traditional hunters in the P&Y ranks. Unfortunately, it will be slow to affect any change. I would urge existing Regular Members to stay an active participant and vote to keep the traditional values.

I believe there is a very active club in that area. Contact Guy Perkins at Camp Chef and he can point you in the right direction.

in reply to: Activities for Kids at the Rendezvous #16778Joe, T.J. would totally give you a hug! ๐
Mike, we have an Event Calendar on this site that lists all of the shoots I know about. It’s on the main page, left side under Resources. One day we’ll meet up. ๐
in reply to: Activities for Kids at the Rendezvous #15621That is a good age for them to get started and I think they’ll have a blast at the shoot. There are three ranges and it’s non-competitive. There are also novelty ranges, a playground and tons of other kids running around. There is a river very close by the camping area. Food is available onsite (hotdogs, burgers, ice cream bars, etc.) as well as showers, ice and (I think) firewood.
All day Saturday seems to be kids day. Yours would probably fall into the pee-wee class where they will have a craft project and probably a bit of shooting time. Older kids will learn things like tracking, maybe a bit on conservation, sometimes animal anatomy, it just depends on who’s volunteering this year.
Dave Jarvis is the club President if you have specific questions about this year’s activities. His email is djarvis97@yahoo.com
I’ll be in the big tent at our vendor booth most of the time. Stop by and say hi!

in reply to: Quality Deer Management #57391David Petersen wrote: Mom, why does it matter? I doubt TBM will be wanting to run their ads, so what’s there to lose? We should be proud of being a thoughtful and critical discussion group, as there sure aren’t any such anywhere else. IMO
Maybe I should have explained myself better. Deer Traders sells advertising to other folks based on how many “hits” they get on their site. In a roundabout way, traffic we generate for them helps them sell ads. The hits don’t tell them whether we are interested or disgusted, only that we looked at the site and the ads were displayed.
I am proud of this thoughtful and critical discussion group!
in reply to: Quality Deer Management #56358Ugh, that’s awful! David, I understand what you were trying to show the group, but I am disabling the link so Deer Traders doesn’t see a bunch of internet traffic from our site. In essence it’s a deer breeding site. If you want to see it, you’ll have to copy and paste the address into your browser.
in reply to: When "friends" turn out to be enemies #47580๐ฏ I’m sure we agree on many of these points, but it’s drifting away from the NRA and hunting related topic. Let’s not get into politics, government or religion and you’ll keep this Mom happy.
Thanks!
in reply to: PTSD and Traditional Archery #46844Busted! Yes, we are in Costa Rica and I’ll be here for the next month. But, as any good Mom will tell you, I can see you guys from anywhere in the world! ๐
On a serious note, PTSD is a serious issue and I hope that we can help in some way to calm anxiety, share experiences and help in any way we can.
Way to keep it on track, ColMike!
